Stuffed Italian Bread
It does look like it does have some healthy ingredients. I'd use whole wheat bread instead of white. I thought I'd post this to share for everyone, does look like a popular hit on facebook.
1 Italian loaf, about 12 inches long
1 stick butter, melted
1/8 cup olive oil
3 tsp minced onion
2-3 cloves garlic, grated
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp poppy seeds
3 tsp chopped parsley (add more if you wish)
12 oz grated cheese (use a mix of white cheddar and Monterrey jack.)(Or your choice)
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Mix the melted butter, olive oil, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds and parsley in a bowl.
Cut the bread into cubes with X slices without cutting all the way through the bottom crust.
Pour the butter-onion garlic mixture carefully into those X cracks using a small spoon and over the top of the bread. Fill those delicious cracks with the grated cheese. (It seems like a lot of work and trouble but it's all worth it. Yes.)
Wrap the entire loaf with foil, sealing the sides properly and bake for 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and unwrap. Bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.
I'm sorry--I could not find any nutritional info.

This looks AMAZING...................and really fattening!!
I put it into the recipe calculator and if you eat just 1/6 of the loaf, each serving is 528 calories!!!!!0 -
Okay. Wow. I didn't know that. I find something, and I think it's a healthy version of something..Sorry about that.0

I'm sorry--I could not find any nutritional info.
there's a site called myfitnesspal that has a recipe calculator in it.
by the sounds of the amount of cheese and butter...i imagine it would be at least over 450 cals for one piece, prolly closer to like 500 or 550 depending on the type of cheese you use and whatnot.0 -
i just saw that someone calculated it. damn! but it looks really good, something good to have a few bites of, or on a day where you have extra calories.
what is the nutritional value for fat? just curious0 -

I didn't think of it, and please don't make me feel stupid..ok? It's just one of those days. Just avoid the recipe. I'm sure if i really looked into it, I can look for a less caloric version.0 -
so what if its not the healthiest! it still looks delish for those special splurge days. I would make it for a special holiday or get together to share, not to eat all by myself in one meal. heck its no worse than cheesy garlic bread from a pizza place. thanks for posting. I may indeed try it some day.0

Looks great but I just gained 2lbs from looking at that picture.0

Could easily be altered to be more healthy. For example, halve the butter, halve the cheese, use reduced fat cheese, etc....0
-
That looks delicious! So what if it's not healthy? What's important is that we know what's in it, and how many calories it has, so people can make an educated decision about whether or not they want to make it. There are occasions to splurge, and as long as you're not splurging on a regular basis, then I think it's okay to treat yourself.0

Me too... I can totally see myself scarfing down a whole loaf... especially if I had some marinara sauce to dip in.. Yummy0 -
Let's see...large bread, whole stick of butter, good amount of cheese. Seems healthy lol ::sarcasm:: Definitely looks delicious though. Moderation, moderation, moderation.0
