I have been exercising and counting calories for the last 3 weeks. I weigh myself once a week but have not lost any weight. My daily calorie intake according to MFP is 1200 cal a day a little more with my exercise workouts. Any explanations for the lack of weight loss?

What is your height/weight? What is the extent and consistency of your physical activity and exercise? What kinds of foods are your calories coming from? Would love to help but I'm going to need more information.0

It took me almost 5 weeks before the scale started moving.
Also, depending on your height and weight, 1200 calories may not be enough.0 -
Your body adjusts to the new status of calorie intake and exercise. It is called a plateau. You are at a set point, and there is no progress up or down. You have to break up the routine and increase small increments of intensity in your workouts. Look up "Interval training" on the web. Not sure what your exercise routine is, but you should vary your workouts and intensity levels from time to time. Your body is a marvelous machine and it makes adjustments very rapidly. Also, check your diet so that you do not eat the same things over and over again. Just a suggestion. It got on a plateau and it takes some effort to break up your routine. Hope this helps. All the best......Stan0

OP hasn't hit a plateau. OP just started 3 weeks ago and is wondering why they have not lost any weight yet.0 -
Are you sure you've been accurately tracking?0

Let me pull out my crystal ball and look into your diary...0

It would be nice if you could open your diary up to the public so we could take a look.0

sometimes when you're working out not eating enough calories will cause your body to go into starvation mode and hold onto everything you're putting into it. make sure you're spreading your food out throughout the day and not overeating at night. also make sure you're getting enough calories. it also matters what you eat, and how much water you drink. if you've just started working out, you'll add muscles as you lose fat which can be deceiving on the scale. take your measurements and keep track that way also. you'll also notice if your clothes start fitting differently. don't be discouraged, just take a look at what you're doing and make sure you're eating good healthy whole foods, drinking plenty of water, and getting exercise.0

Try increasing your water and lowering your sodium and carb intake. Both sodium and carbs can make you gain water weight if you have too much of them in your diet. When you lower your carbs try increasing your protein as that helps to fill you up.0

My loss is very slow as well. Granted, I do not dedicate myself to exercise the way I should. I do watch what I eat, do some weights and bike ride a couple times a week. I have lost just over 3 pounds with that little effort. What I'm trying to say, my body is adjusting to the small changes I have made and there is some success. In the past when I wanted to lose some weight I'd ride the bike every day for an hour and maybe only lose a couple three pounds in a month. By going hard I think I messed up my metabolism and my body fought to store EVERYTHING. Taking things easy at first and gradually increasing is better.0

This is week three for me and I have only lost one pound. I'm being diligent as heck, including 5-6 days of cardio. I have however, lost two inches from my hips and one from my waist. Check your measurements.0

Your food diary is closed... so hard to really say without seeing the diary. If your eating back all your exercise calories, you will not lose. Maybe drop the calories a bit and also keep sodium down if that is high. If your carbs are close or over 200, I would drop those down too.0

Two possibilities come immediately to mind.
1) You are not accurately tracking calories. I was whining about not losing on appropriate calories but gradually came to realize that I was often pretty sloppy in my measurements plus had extra bites, licks, tastes, and swallows that never made it onto my log. If you want results, you have to be accurate.
2) Your diet is high in sodium, which makes you retain water. Sore muscles also mean retained water.0 -
I am 47, 5'0" and weigh 167. My exercise consist of the Insanity workout (I listed this as High impact Aerobic since I did not see any other choice selections). I reset my food diary setting so those on MFP should be able to see my food entries up until this point. I am new to this so any input and advice is greatly appreciated.0
