I am a male and I have lost around 49 pounds from when I started and am down to 187.8. I recently went on my honey moon to Atlantic City. I took a few days off from my normal routine and didnt count calories as religiously, but was aware of what I was eating. I did a lot of walking in AC (so I really didnt get take any days "off" from work outs). The most I went over in those 3 days was around 750 (this was the highest over day).

When I got back on Friday my weight went from 187.8 to 195.2. I have had this happen before after a few days "off" and within a week it is always back down to where it should be, but figured this time I would see if any one knows why this happens. What exactly causes the large increase and then the gradual decrease?

*** I realize I posted this same topic around 5 months ago and for some reason when I click it under my topics it wont open so I made the topic, never saw any answers, and now it happened again in case both are still listed***

My normal routine is:

Day 1- 65-70 mins elliptical
Day 2: Yoga
Day 3: Zumba
Day 4: Off
Day 5: 65-70 mins elliptical
Day 6: Zumba
Day 7: Off

then I repeat.

It is mostly water weight from eating out and getting tons more sodium than you're probably used to. You can't gain or lose anything like that amount of fat in that amount of time.

Thats what I figured (the sodium is news to me) so thank you.

A couple of things. Different water. Softened water can add a certain amount of sodium that is different from usual. I notice this when i go to the NC or SC beaches.

Seond and usually the biggest contributor...salt in the food you eat. I have seen as much as 6-7 pound weight gain from eating a normal amount of food. If it has a lot of salt and fat and sugar that yo aren't used to, it isn't unusual to see this huge swing. And the good news is that it usually only lasts a few days before your weight gets back to normal.

Double your water intake for few days. I jumped up 3 pounds a day after eating takeout pizza 1 time. I upped my water intake and within a couple days had flushed it all out.

You really should research the benefits of weight lifting.

Don't worry about it, it will go back down. Some people gain weight by just getting on the plane. (me)

I didn't track but really didn't go crazy and "gained" 10.6 pounds. Was back to my starting weight about a week later after getting home. Happened before as well, but took 3 weeks to get the weigh off.

used to do some weight lifting, but because of some disc issues with my neck I was advised to stop and focus more on cardio. since I stopped my neck has been great though so can't complain too much.
