I was just thinking about this now, I have it set for 'lose .5 lbs a week' right now.

My goal is to add a little muscle going into eary-mid may and then shred down fast.

should I put it at stay the same weight or gain .5 a week for a very CLEAN bulk?

obviously my calorie goal each day would be a little higher with a positive weight gain goal.

thanks

you need a calorie excess to bulk... so +0.5lbs

however, you probably need to know what your maintenance is first - MFP isnt totally accurate (about 300cals per day out for me) so i would take a few weeks to figure out maintenance and then add 200cals per week to that.

ok thanks. I think to be safe I will move it from 'maintain weight' now to .5 while clean bulking.

and then in 1.5 months when I want to cut really fast for summer I will go to lose 2lbs a week?

i think if you cut too fast you will run the risk of losing the muscle along with the fat...

thats a good point.. I think what I may do is after a few weeks from now start gradually cutting while still lifting intensely. ease off the cal's slighly each week but keep protein going higher?
