I would like to become "fit", can anyone guide me?

I will be completely honest and say I know nothing about fitness.
My routine right now is pretty much using the elliptical for 30 to 60 min a day. I try and throw in some arm/core exercises that I find online once in a while. I also do zumba videos and have done the 30 day shred once.
I don't really have any equipment other than 2lb and 5lb weights & I don't really have the funds to join a gym at the moment.
Can anyone suggest some basic exercises I can do to tone up or direct me on where to go to gain some more basic knowledge on toning up while loosing weight?

I've just got the book You Are Your Own Gym, which was recommended on here. I've not started it yet, as it only arrived today but it looks good.
It can be found online I believe, if you don't mind using *ahem* torrents. Personally I prefer I real book.0 -
