fitbit says I don't sleep well?

Hi,

Didn't know where to post this, but wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience. I got my Fitbit about 2 weeks ago and have been wearing it day and night. My boyfriend has always said that I toss and turn a lot at night, and I "look like I'm awake" but I feel like I sleep like a rock.

The Fitbit has been consistently telling me that I wake between 20 and 30 times a night (none of which I am aware of). It is on "normal" setting, not "sensitive." I am wearing it on my nondominant hand. It still says my sleep efficiency is 88-95%, but it is showing me that I get about an hour less sleep per night than I think I do.

I have considered a sleep study in the past because I do feel tired a lot, especially at night. But I wake easily in the morning and usually have enough energy to get through a long day. I guess I was just wondering if other Fitbit users have had this experience of the Fitbit telling them they are waking but not being aware...and based on my numbers, is there a reason to pursue this information more, by consulting a doctor etc? Is it necessarily indicative of bad sleep to toss and turn a lot?

Thanks guys!

Emily

I have had my Fitbit One for a few months now. I used to wear it on my wrist to sleep and it would always have crazy high readings at night. After about 2 weeks, and the wrist band snagging on my blanket and waking me up, I just started wearing it on my bra at night, like I do during the day. I now see 3-4 times where I wake up and must really be rolling over etc.

You might just toss & turn a lot whilst you're asleep, rather than being fully awake. I think it works on movement to an extent.....the other week there was one night when it took me over an hour to get to sleep and I was awake for an hour during the night as well, but the Fitbit said I went to sleep virtually straight away and didn't wake for long later, although I didn't move around much. I don't use the wristband, I wear knickers in bed so my Fitbit is clipped to them instead.....and it's set to sensitive.

If you're not feeling tired in the morning and you have enough energy during the day, I wouldn't think you've got too much to worry about. Everybody's sleep patterns are different....and who really knows how accurate the Fitbit is anyway?

Thanks for the info! I'm thinking I'll try it on my PJs and see if the numbers change. :-)

I'm in the same boat. It never occurred to me to move the fitbit to my clothing. I do wake up a few times per night but the ~25 average seems high to me.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel rested, then forget it. This is one of those things like back MRIs. If you did an MRI of a thousand spines, you'd find something that "requires surgery" in a hundred of them, even though most of them have no symptoms of anything.

I finally took my fitbit off at night. I would think i slept well while the fitbit said I was in motion 20+ times a night. It was messing with my head because I would always check my fitbit to see how I slept. I had to quit wearing it at night and now I think I sleep well:-)
