Paleo "diet"

I'm sure MFP archives are filled with loads of threads with this topic. But I've been reading and researching about this "diet" for the past two days ever since I've stumbled upon a video explaining about the whole Paleo concept. And I'm wondering if anyone has actually done it and if you have could you share your experience? Replies are greatly appreciated. And if someone could steer me into the right direction so i can gather more information. thanks. xx

You are correct that the boards are full on this topic. I'd advise doing a search to see the information that is already out there as the same people are likely to respond with the same basic responses as have already been posted over and over on the forums. There is plenty of pro/con and other information about this diet out on the boards. Also, you could search the groups for paleo/primal if you want answers just from people that are already doing this diet.

Been Paleo for six months. I love it and will probably make this a lifestyle! Go check out the Primal/Paleo groups for more info! :)

Paleo/crossfit haters AND zealots will have their wrath!!!

Will it work for you, and can you stick with it? If so, by all means enjoy it.

There is a group on the community thread dedicated to the paleo lifestyle. I think it really is something you should consider more for a lifestyle change than an actual diet. I usually eat paleo at home, but I don't deprive myself of other foods I really enjoy outside of the home. I don't think I could live without occasionally eating pizza, pasta or a nice juicy hamburger. Basically weight loss comes down to this: everything in moderation. When you start depriving yourself is when your most likely to fail.

It's OK, but I've moved on to the Mesolithic diet.
  • The best resource on MFP is the Low Carb'er Daily Forum - The Group. Not a specifically Paleo or Primal forum, but very active with a lot of knowledgeable, thoughtful and helpful folks. This particular forum has folks from many walks of the nutrition world. the single thing in common is that everyone eats a diet that is low in carbohydrates.

I unintentionally ate paleo friendly for about 2 months where I said "I'm not eating grains and cutting off protein powders."

So nothing but lean meats, whole fruits (mostly berries) and vegetables, and some nuts and seeds.

My bloodwork was great and no general problems except for my colon and the sticky, uneven poo from eating so much soluble fiber.

After adding back grains and dairy, my colon thanks me as my bloodwork has stayed the same. No need for me to be so restrictive whatsoever. I feel much better being able to make broader food choices too.

Don't fold under the preasure of haters. It is an amazing lifestyle with tons to back it up. I have been studying nutrition for years and come from a chemistry/physics background. I have acrued and read thousands of interesting studies. Feel free to friend me if you wish to ask anything specific on it.

Paleo isn't a "diet" in the verb sense...it is most definitely a lifestyle. Do your research and consider whether you can truly stick to something like that. It is very restrictive...pretty much giving up any and all processed food stuffs, as well as dairy and grains.

My BIL does paleo and he likes it...but then again, he's always enjoyed chowing down on nuts and berries. For me, far too restrictive...I just try to eat primarily whole foods, but I don't deprive myself of the good things in life either...like pizza and whatnot. I could never stick to a paleo lifestyle, but there are many who can and who love eating like that.
