Determined to Run!

Hi everyone -

I have never been much of a runner but am determined to become one. I am relatively active now, but running and I have just never hit it off, and I am determined to change that! Anyone have any realistic tips or tools to help get me going? I have signed up for a 10k in June and a Half Marathon is September ... so I need to get going ASAP!

    Does the 10K have a training group that you could sign up with? Or check at a local running store for beginning or womens' training groups. Learning this stuff with others makes much more fun. It also gives you someone to hang out with at the race.

    If you can't find a training group, google some 10K training plans. Hal Higdon's website is a good one and the training plans are free. He also has beginner to advanced plans. To get to the 10K distance, just check off the training days.

    I've been a runner for years. Most of the time it's not fun when I am doing it, but the sense of accomplishment afterward is worth it.

    Hate to rain on your parade, but I don't know how you're going to do a half if you don't enjoy some part of running.
