Will this do the trick

I have been trying to lose weight for some time and I'm starting to figure out the mistakes I have made. Before I would do lots of exercise for a few days and then run out of steam, so tis time I want to start with smaller exercise goals so that I will stick to it. I get alot of back pain but I have found most of the time I walk it doesnt always bother me too much.

If I walk at least 20mins each day, im not too speedy like but I'm not slow either, will I start to lose weight? Im trying to eat as well as i can living with family who controll every meal, but I am getting better. Once I can walk for longer I will, I used to walk miles and miles everyday to get to school and want to get back to that fitness level. Im just hoping that starting this small isnt a waste of time.

Start walking and you will see that your stamina will increase as you become used to it. Do you drink a lot of soda? Try to cut it out.

When starting out there is no such thing as a waste unless you are doing other things to counter act and therefore sabotage your progress. Start where you can and as you adapt to that level of activity see where it goes from there. Just don't forget that you have to progress to get results.
  • Another great way to lose weight is just by standing for 30-60 minutes at night. I usually stand and watch tv. It's simple and really easy to do! Every little bit counts, and this is one more of those little things that can really make a difference!

Only if you're in a Caloric deficit. For weight loss, it doesn't matter how "well" you eat, if you're not burning more than you take in.

But, as far as walking 20 minutes goes, do whatever you can. When you can do more, do more. We all start somewhere.

I have developed an addiction to pepsi max, zero sugar and cals but I know its not great. But thats maybe one bottle on the weekend, I mostly drink diluted cordial/ juice because I cant stand pain water.

whatever form of exercise you choose to do at this time, work on doing more and more of it.
If you're walking for 20 minutes at a time this week, try to do 25 minutes at a time next week. Then 30 minutes and so on.
Eventually you'll want to add some other forms of exercise. Weight lifting is a great way to maintain what muscle you currently have and maybe add a little. Muscle is good. It's more metabolically active than fat, and will help burn even more calories during the day.
  • Thanks folks.
I do plan on doing more and for longer, I just want to start small so Im more likely to stick to it long term. At this point any exercise is more then I have been doing and for the last year just watching what I eat I have been able to stay at the same weight and not gain which I think is good.
