Why the hell did I gain 3 pounds????

So on tuesday I weighed 155.2 lbs. today I weighed 158. I have been exercising and eating right, you can check my diary (I made it public). can someone tell me what can possibly be going on? I weighed in under the same conditions. this is so frustrating.

You are probably experiencing hormonal slowdown due to not eating enough. 1000 calories is simply not enough. 1200 is usually not even enough.

Edit: I meant to add that the actual gaining of weight is probably water retention, whereas hormonal slowdown would lead to plateaus. Is is your time of the month? Have you started weight training? Have you had more sodium or carbs than usual?

Just checked your diary and a couple of things: 1. some days you don't even eat 1200 calories; cut out the quick calories; check your sodium and do you really need 6 tsp of sugar in your grams of cornflakes?

I really hope i havent reached plateaus. it's not my time of the month. I have been regularly weight training (except for the period between wednesday and yesterday). I think I did have a little bit too much sodium.

the quick calories are basically just sugar and cereal. I am addicted to sugar, but I don't think it's a problem as long as I don't go over my max.

Unless you ate over 10,000 calories more than you need over the week, you didn't go up 3 pounds.

I have had a few days off and gone up 6.5 pounds in just 3 days. It is purely from eating more and being indulgent with some of my favourite foods along with some fluid retention and not doing any exercise . It will be back down by this time next week.

    Your not eating enough.

If you go too far below your BMR and on top of that burning calories from exercise your body will go into starvation mode (whether you are eating or not your body only recognizes it's not being fed enough). When this happens your body will retain water and hold onto every calorie and store it as fat. Some days you only eat 1000 calories and your still exercising! a Good recomendation for constant weight loss is no more than 500 cals below your BMR (that is after you have factored in exercise)

Sugar is a terrible for your if you are at an extreme caloric deficit it will be the first thing stored as fat!

You still need to eat more. You need more vegetables and fats. Some days you don't get enough protein. I'm not sure how long you've been eating this way, but you may have actually messed up your metabolism if it's been a long time.

yea I should add more vegetables. I have been eating like this for like 2 weeks now. before that i used to eat between 1500-2000 calories and exercise for only 2.5 hours a week.

Well I think we have our answer.

Out of curiosity, what happened 2 weeks ago to make you change what you'd been doing?

it is likely just water retention. measure yourself rather than stepping on a scale. in fact, throw away the scale and only measure yourself.

I agree with this man. I gain 3 pounds almost always right before my period. 1200 calories a day is just fine. 1000 is fine if you're not very active. Just make sure they're healthy calories... like raw fruits and veggies and greek yogurt. If you're eating too many starches (i.e. cornflakes) that can cause a little bloaty feeling in some people too.

I gained weight. I decided to track my calories. I discovered that I ate a lot over the weekend and that was the reason I gained weight.

Any time you make that drastic of a change, your body will take a little while to adjust.

Ummm, you don't think being "addicted to sugar" is a problem? Being addicted to any food isn't normal, even though many of us are. (Why are addictions almost always carbs, espcially sugar?) However, you started a thread because you are having a problem.... I'm confused.

If you adhere to everything is calories in, calories out then there is no explanation for weight gain, except perhaps water retention, and a high carb diet can cause that too.

FYI, elevated insulin levels will lead to more sugar being stored as fat in the body. Just one thing to consider.
