Going through the airport

I wasn't sure where to post this question, so I figured here was as good as any. How accurate does your photo ID need to be in order to take a flight? I am not going out of the country and I do not have a passport but the photo on my drivers license was from 65 lbs ago. I don't know if I got my license retaken if I would receive it in time for my trip. Will the weight difference between me and the picture be an issue? I didn't really think about this until recently.

I doubt it. Bring a second form of ID in case they ask you to prove that is you? I don't think it's going to be a big issue though.

Hahahaha I thought you were going to say, "I hate it when I go through airport security and my abs of steel sets off the alarm. "

Anywaaaaaay, it should look like you, not you when you were a kid.

My hair color rarely, if ever, matches my ID and I've never had a problem. I can't imagine that weight is any different.

As long as the pic looks like you it should not be a problem all the ID is for is to verify that you are who you say you are.
  • Best thing to do is call the airport and ask them...

Ooppps thought it said 65 years ago! I don't think it would really matter. Just tell them you lost weight

The most I ever got was they would take a longer look at the photo id. I had lost 80lbs at the time and looked quite different than my photo. In general though, people can usually still see it is you, even if out of date.

My driver's license is from 60 lbs ago and I look really fat in it. I travel every week, including international, and it hasn't been an issue. Always nice to get the comment "you've lost some weight".

Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance
Taken in front of a plain white or off-white background
Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera
With a neutral facial expression and both eyes open

I have traveled internationally four times since dropping 80lb. I have not been questioned about not looking like my photo. Years ago a friend was asked for additional id because they questioned the photograph since he had lost around 70lb or so. He provided another piece of photo id and off he went.

My boss looks the the uni bomber in his passport photo and no one ever questions him so I'm sure you'll be fine. The only place I've ever gone that they really even looked at my ID was Tanzania.

I used a credit card in a store in England after I lost weight, and since it was swipe and not PIN (America--the last hold out...) got asked for an ID. I handed over my driver's license, and the woman looked at it, back at me, and blurted out, "My God! You've improved!"

Sort of made my day, really.
