Free weights vs machines?

Machines stabilize the weights so you are only working a particular muscle group. Free weights exercise your core as well to stabilize your body as you lift the weights.
What I find is that it is sometimes difficult to set up a machine so it works right for me. I don't have that problem with free weights, obviously.0
