I am a food-a-holic.
I will admit it, I love food. I think about it all the time. Thing is, I think I am too attached to it. I think this was instilled in me from my childhood. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, which translated to not having a lot of food. With six kids to feed, it was survival of the fittest. Now, in my adult life, I just eat too much. I always clean my plate, and usually go back for seconds. I have a very hard time wasting food. I need to attack the emotional attachment to food in order to conquer it. I am re-training my brain to believe there is an abundance of food and it will always be there.
I am now committed to living a balanced life. One of love and abundance vs. fear and scarcity. This new balance is not just with food, but in all aspects of my life. I am actively trying to be a more loving, caring, honest, fun person.
I am not only tracking the amount of calories, but the quality of the foods I am eating. I am taking the time to educate myself on what to eat, and what not to eat. I have moved from cheeseburgers, beer, and pizza to chicken, salads and fruit smoothies. Before I eat anything, I ask myself if this food will serve me well. I don’t want to be bogged down with fat, preservatives, and fillers. I want to be energized by the foods I eat. So, I can live an active, more fulfilling life.
BTW, I am a 43 yr old male father of two. I am 6’2” and weighed in at 222lbs. when I started this. My current goal is to get under 200 lbs. I exercise 5x a week and live a pretty active lifestyle. I like to ski and snowshoe in the winter, and run, bike, hike, kayak in the summer.
I am hoping to make some friends to keep me motivated in this awesome journey we call life.
