Heart Rate question

I have a heart rate monitor that I use for exercising, and I've been wandering if my heart rate is higher than normal. I've noticed when I'm sitting at rest it is the normal under 100 beats a minute. As soon as I stand it shoots to 100-120. It drops quickly to this after exercising and back under 100 when sitting. I can't seem to find much about what is normal when standing and not exercising. I've just started exercising regularly and its been years since I have. I know its normal to have a higher heart rate when I don't exercise frequently and am over weight. Im just worried 120 is a little much for just standing and walking.

A regular RESTING (standing around, sitting, not exercising) heart rate is an normal, healthy adult is anywhere from about 60-100. If you're super fit, it's going to be lower because your body/heart doesn't need to work as hard. If you're less fit/overweight its going to be working overtime and be higher. For you, at your age, it wouldn't be unusual (and it's really good actually) to see a heart rate at about 190-200 (but you should try not to go over that as then it could get crazy). There will be some normal fluctuation between standing and sitting, but it should not be making a huge impact. You want to just make sure you're at least under 100 when in a resting state (not exercising).

If you're REALLY concerned, go see your doctor. But, if you keep that HRM on and start walking on a regular basis, my best guess (from my experience) is that your resting heart rate, and thus your standing-around heart rate will come down.

If walking is too much try a nice mosey. That's what I started with a nice, slow, mosey down the street. Pretty sure some earth worms passed me but it got better week after week.
