Unsure about Shake and Multivitamin

Program: Insanity (As of this posting, I've just completed Day 2)
A'ight, got two questions for y'all; Health Gauge on two shakes I use post-workout (Insanity) and Multivitamins.
[]Question 1: Shakes
I make a "Vanilla Egg Shake" and a "Strawberry Egg Shake;" here are what's in 'em:
-" Vanilla Egg Shake"
1 lg egg (70 cals)
3/8 cup 2% milk (45.8 cals)
1 scoop Van. Whey Protein (160 cals)
1 banana (90 cals)
2 tbs peanut butter (160 cals)
ice
|Total Calories = 525.8 cals|
-" Strawberry Egg Shake"
1 lg egg (70 cals)
3/8 cup 2% milk (45.8 cals)
1 scoop Van. Whey Protein* (160 cals)
1 cup strawberries (48.6 cals)
2 tbs peanut butter (160 cals)
ice
|Total Calories = 484.4|
Those calories seem kind of high for shakes to me, plus I have a feeling I could do better or take something out. What are y'alls opinions?
[]Question 2: Multivitamins
I went to local store and bought GNC's MegaMen Energy & Metabolism 90 ct**. It instructs to take 2 of them daily with food. However, I'm at a standstill as to when I should take them; common sense leads me to take one before workout and one after, only thing is that I'm scheduled to do Insanity around 9am my time, which I have a 2 hour window to eat something and take a pill pre-workout. Should I eat something when I wake up and take the pill an hour before workout? Or should I just go ahead and take it standalone without food? (says that consumer may become nauseated without food). What are y'all's opinion on this? Suggestions?

That seems a little high for protein shakes. You say you're doing Insanity so have you tried the shakes from that company? I believe they are a lot lower in calories.0 -

Shakes are used for things like: convenience and cost effectiveness
You don't need shakes if you're getting the proper nutrition from food. If you use them as a meal replacement that's fine. I don't see the need to add an egg to whey and using milk when you have a banana... Seems like a lot of redundant ingredients. If you want a balanced shake you don't necessarily need multiple forms of protein, carbs, and fats. I rather eat a fried egg sandwich with cheese and bacon for the same macros.. They're basically forcing you to eat clean. It looks like they want those shakes to have so many calories you can't really **** up with only like 400-600 calories left for the day.
It doesn't really matter when you take a multivitamin.0 -
I agree. That sounds high. Why not just do the whey protein powder, fat free milk and water? If you still want the nutrients of the egg, hard boil it and eat only the egg white. Or eat the hard boiled egg white and 1/4 of the yolk. I think fruit sugar is okay, even though it has calories.0

The reason that multivitamins are supposed to be taken with food is because they usually upset people's stomachs if taken on an empty stomach. For instance, i've tried taking mine without eating and it makes me dry heave. When you take your vitamin doesn't matter as long as you are eating something along with it so it isn't so harsh on your stomach.0
