The New Rules Lifting for Women

I've heard a lot of good things about this book and program. A few questions:
I do all my workouts at home with my free weights, resistance band, and kettle bells. I have elliptical and treadmill. I also do my DVDs I own. I cannot afford a gym membership. Currently I only have 3-10 lbs weights and 10lbs and 15lbs kettle bell.
I'm not sure the requirements of the program? Please state your experiences and more about the program.
I'm not trying to be cheap. I have a 4 year old with Type 1 Diabetes and any extra money goes into his care and management with the insulin and supplies. That's my priority and its all about my kids first anyways. Thanks you

I downloaded the book and the exercises appear to require barbells. I was saddened.0

Yes the book is about LIFTING HEAVY, and showing women that they don't need to use 10 or less "barbie weights" and can pick up REAL weight. You basically need a gym membership. You can alter the program if you have a barbell at home or if you buy adjustable dumbbells up to like maybe 50 lbs each you could do all the moves but it won't be the same.
Maybe p90x would be better for you, if you invest in some dumbbells up to maybe 25 lbs you could do p90x. www.dailyhiit.com also has good body weight workouts. You can get great results from body weight and dumbbell workouts at home, but if you want to lift heavy you kind of have to have a gym membership unless you have a power rack and barbells and plates at home.
A lot of the p90x workouts are online if you search, for example:
http://www.freeworkoutguides.com/workoutguides/p90x-chest-and-back
if you google around you can find the workouts so you dont have to buy the DVD set. But if you think you'd be better with the form cues and the instructor telling you what to do then you could look for it on ebay?
I dont think anyone will judge you as cheap. Not everyone can afford a gym, they're expensive a lot of times! Planet fitness is cheap but doesn't even have real squat racks so it's not worth it in my book. I'm lucky that my gym membership is included with my university tuition. Not everyone has that. Not everyone even has a gym nearby! My hometown finally just got it's first gym this year!
You can do great things with the things you have and then work up to maybe saving up for a 20 lb dumbbell set or kettlebell set (could look on ebay). It's unfortunate you can't do lifting right now but it's not the only solution for getting fit. Just find something you enjoy and work hard and you'll make great progress!0
