Things that make you scratch your head

Conversation with my mom this morning:

Mom - "I saw you made a statement supporting gay marriage on facebook. You know that you're shaming me and your father by putting that out in public."

Me - "Human rights and equality is shameful? Didn't you and dad actively support civil rights when it was black vs. white when you were in college?"

Mom - "No, it's not the same thing, people can be gay behind closed doors, marriage is for a man and a woman."

Me - "Marriage in the legal sense is a civil right that is being denied to specific group of people. I think it's wrong."

Mom - "I think you're wrong."

.....Just scratching my head......

can we seperate the religion from the legal entity already. Marriage has religous overtones some just can't get outta their heads. Legalize, call it "civil unions" or what you will legally, and keep "marriage" between you and your chosen diety.

My mom was smart enough to not even send me a FB FR when she finally joined the rest of us in the 21st century.

Why wouldn't I, seems like something a teenager would want to do? I'm 30, the majority of my FB activity is posting pictures of my kid. Besides I make a habit of only posting things that I don't want to hide from anyone, seeing as it is a public place (despite the 'privacy' settings)

If my mother ever said, "You know that you're shaming me and your father by putting that out in public." She'd be kicked right off the friends list no matter what my age.

In fact, anyone that thought my stance on gay marriage was shameful would be booted.
