Running music...

I run a lot and music really helps me keep pace. In fact on a 12 mile run, my splits are within 20 seconds of each other. I am looking for some new tunes. I like pretty much everything but screamo and rap. I prefer classic rock, hard rock, some metal, Christian rock, upbeat country and even some pop or blues. I need a play list or song suggestions that have a good solid beat without out slow intros or endings. I don't really care about lyrics, so instrumental stuff like Satrani or Steve Vai is cool.

My current list has tunes by Tom Petty, Aerosmith, The New Breed, Ricky Martin, Audio A, Springsteen, J Giles, Heart, Black Eyed Peas, Satriani, Ozzzy, Guns and Roses, Vapors, Keith Urban, Foo Fighters, Alan Jackson, Survivor, Nicklback, Kravitz, Police, J Starship, Van Halen, Scissor Sisters, Hives, and Jet.

I am open to pretty much anything as long as I can run to it. I'll check them out on YouTube first, so post a link(s) if you like, or just give me the titles from your run like the wind list.

Muse sound like they might be to your taste. Completely unable to categorise, but Rock, electronic, and all sorts of other styles mixed in. (I pretty much only listen to them when I run, or the Stereophonics).

Country can be hard to get into, but I really like a band called Dry County. They claim to be "Country meets AC/DC" They have several upbeat songs though.

Here is a link to one of their songs : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0Y_Xrm9oK8

Looks good so far!! For those that didn't, could you add some specific songs too?

I never thought Def Lep, AC-DC or Alice in Chains.

    Animals on the list already!

Have to check out some that I am less familiar with.

    Great suggestions from folks here.

Satriani, yes! I have Flying in a Blue Dream and If I Could Fly in my cardio playlists at about 2/3rds of the way through when I usually really need a pick me up.

Here's just a few suggestions for upbeat and/or interesting lyrics for running/cardio:

Time Has Come Today (Chambers Brothers)
    Red Barchetta (Rush)
    Roam (B-52s)
Desire, Beautiful Day, Vertigo, City of Blinding Lights (U2)
    Let's See Action (Who)
    Heros (Bowie)
    Turn It On Again (Genesis)
Couldn't Stand the Weather (Stevie Ray Vaughn)
The Want of a Nail (Todd Rundgren)
    When You Were Young (Killers)

if you have a smart phone you can download an app called RockMyRun and/or FIT Radio.

I tried fit radio... seemed like all their mixes sounded like they came from the 70's or something.. just felt outdated. and it cut out quite a bit.

    I will try rockmyrun. ;)

    thanks for the tips. :)
