What have you done to make your charity runs or events successful? I'm hoping to gather a few ideas that might help in or fundraising for a future run. Thanks in advance for your input.

Sometimes events are costly - depending on your goals, you might want to develop a major gifts campaign if you work or volunteer for the organization.

If you can keep event overhead low, try to secure free or reduced cost advertising locally.

What exactly are you planning, for what and what are your goals. I have been doing some events for about 2 years now and have suggestions, but would like to know more. You can message me if you want

Sorry, i guess my post was far from clear.

I intend to participate in a few races over the next years. I've agreed with my brother that we will be fundraising along the way. I've carried out some major fundraising in the past in the private sector but not in a sporting event. I'm sure people here have done races as fund raisers and wanted to get their input. What I do not plan to do is carry out a fundraising event - I am thinking of this more as an individual participant not as an event organizer. And I am NOT soliciting fund in this thread in any way. I just want to hear about successful participants and their fundraising runs/races/triathalons.

Well, there are lots of ways. I have done a couple different things as a racer. The easiest way is to simply email/write your friends and family and ask for a sponsorship and make sure to explain where the money goes. The race sites will usually have that information. If you don't like to ask for help, then you have to be more creative:
    1) Join up with friends or a group and host a spaghetti/chili/pancake supper. Many churches will donate facilities and help
    2) Buy a product and sell it. Like my mom bought Colors of Cancer Bracelets, Breast Cancer Awareness Keychains, and Relay for Life bracelets (they were $3 each and she sold them for $10). People raved about them and she sold probably about 50 of them
    3) Raffle off a service--a friend of mine cleans houses and does projects for people. She's raffling off a free day of service
    4) Set up an online silent auction. We did that for a project I was involved in and raised over $2000. It's more work but people love them
    5) Yard sale with proceeds going to your charity
    6) I have a friend who's a self defense/kickboxing instructor and he donated his time and offered special classes with the fees going to charity. We did this with Body Flow and Zumba as well

I don't know if I have helped, but these are things I have done in conjunction with my events
