Hi everyone I am Dasha. Im 23 yrs old. I have been in a stressful relationship and in a yr I have gained 20 lbs. And I absolutely HATE it, but the thing is i dont have the motivation to go to the gym. And I hate going by myself. I want to get back on track and lose this horendous weight. I would love any sugggestions on how to make my workouts fun. And if anyone knows any set routines or workouts that have worked for beginners please give me a clue!!! thanks alot

You don't have to go to a gym...walk around your neighborhood, go up & down stairs in an apt building, march in place at home, get some exercise DVDs to do, get some nesting weights to use, etc. Just try to do a little more every day, either a little longer or a little harder. One thing I like to do that's easy for upping the calories a bit is wear ankle weights around the house while I'm just doing my daily household stuff. I gradually increased the weight in the ankle weight holder until it reached 5 lbs each. So I'm just walking around the house, doing regular stuff, but burning a little more in calories. All the best in your fresh start. :-)
ADDED: Kathy Smith's workouts are a little dated, but usually fun & they have all 3 levels shown on the screen at the same time (beginner, moderate, & advanced). Great workouts...esp. her Aerobox & Kickboxing.

lift weights, do whole body routines.
I'm so focused that time flies and never feel weird (anymore) about going alone. I swear that 45 min feels like 10. It's way more fun than cardio, makes me feel strong (I'm 5'1" and peitite) and makes me look better. I love it!
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I do not have any weights i will have to buy some when i can. :) thanks for the encouragement and advice. i will look up some dvds.

Lots of free videos online. Walking or c25k are other very easy options. Have a dog? They like to run.lol. Welcome

Have you tried any of the at home workouts? I.E. p90x, 10 min trainer.....I've gotten much better results working out at home than I did at the gym. The gym had to many distractions for me, and my friends would often flake out on me. Check out beachbody.com, or even youtube has a ton of good workouts. I hope this helps, good luck with your goals!
  • yes i do have a dog haha... a 7 month old german shepherd... perfect dog for running. lol.. im jsut not a big fan of running but I gotta push myself if i want results right?
thanks for the website am checking it out

Hey! Check out the Tone it Up Girls or Blogilates...they have lots of great workouts that you can do at home with little to no equipment and they make it really fun! It can be hard to find the motivation at first, but if you can just push yourself the results you'll quickly see will motivate you further!!

Feel free to add me if you need any encouragement :)

Hi Dasha, welcome to MFP. You came to the right place if you want to find encouragement and friendly people to help you with your goals. I know how sometimes stressful situations can cause us to take a step back from taking care of ourselves.

I was recently doing 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels, its pretty intensive but it also has one girl doing the easier modified exercises, while another girl does the harder one. You can also walk with your dog like others suggested, or watch exercise video's on youtube for free lol.

Add me if you want, we can help each other on our weight loss journey!

start with cleaning up your diet. 80% Diet 20% gym. Your workouts will be useless until you get diet cleaned up. Get a plan and stick to it.
