water weight???

So I keep seeing these posts where people are losing crazy amounts of weight during the first weeks of their diet, and then it slows down. I have not been losing more than like a 1-2 pounds a week since starting the diet. at first I figured that because my salt intake is pretty high (and always has been even when I was naturally so skinny that people called me twiggy at school) so I must have skipped the water weight loss thing and went straight to fat loss since everyone else seems to have a much lower sodium intake than myself. Now I am not so sure if that is even possible. People say the weight loss slows down after a few weeks drastically because of the switch to fat from water weight. Does this mean that I will not maintain my current state of 1-2 pounds a month even though I have been eating just the right number of calories for 1-2 pounds a month? I really do not care about retained water at all. I only really care about getting rid of the fat. But everyone says that I am not getting rid of fat. Im not even sure if I am making sense.

    A couple of questions:

    1. How was your diet before? Were you eating a lot of processed foods?
    2. Have you made significant changes to your exercise routine?

You don't have a huge amount of weight to lose, so you may not notice that you lose a ton of weight to start. Also when I started I never had gigantic drops either, because I have always been a healthy eater with a relatively low (approximately 1800 mg daily average) intake of sodium. I just ate way too much healthy food, and yes you CAN get fat eating apples, I am living proof!!!

Anyway, it may be fat loss or it may be water weight, only time will tell. As long as you continue to see a general downward trend in your weight over time, that's the important thing.

I have exercised a bit more. I cannot push myself too hard because of my chronic pain from skeletal deformities.
Lets see, before this I ate pasta, and fatty meats. I did have junk food like chips fairly often (once a week). I also had a lot of home made tacos with lots of sour cream. Basically the only thing I cut from my diet was fat, and pasta. The pasta I only cut because its hard to measure without a food scale (which I dont have yet).

Now I mainly replaced pasta with whole wheat bread. But thats just an increase in the kinds of bread I already ate.

Oh yeah, and I stopped eating kids cereal. I now eat bran flakes.

If you cut the pasta but are eating more bread to make up that makes you pretty well even on the carbs most likely. I notice I drop a lot when I eat low carb. But I love carbs so that doesn't happen very often!

Even if you did lose some water weight at the start you will start to see fat loss quickly if you eat well and measure your portions, which it sounds like you are doing.
