35 yo mom of 2 hoping to loose for good!

Hi All. I am Chrissy, I'm 35 years old, I am a full time mom of an 8 year old and 4 year old, and part time RN. My story:

I was always overweight as a kid. When I was 20 years old I was finishing my first year of nursing school my blood pressure was elevated at a job interview. I saw my doctor (who I think was having a bad day) and he said very bluntly "your too fat". After I finished crying I took the 1500 calorie Ada diet he gave me, and lost about 60+ pounds in leass than 6 months! I met the man who became my husband and before our wedding joined weightwatchers and lost about another 25lbs. This was the thinnest I ever was in my life, and I felt great!

Then came the kids. I gained 60 lbs the first time around, 3 years after he was born weightwatchers helped me get back down to almost my starting weight. During this time I started having some trouble with my back, had a herniated disc removed but still continued to have pain and spasms. Then surprise, child number 2 came along! I have not lost any of the weight I gained with her.

So here I am. Several failed attempts at weightwatchers left me feeling like I was just missing something. 2 years ago I started running. Oh how great I felt! Then the back started to act up again, I stopped running and it continued to get worse. I recently saw a specialist. Turns out I have a congenital anomoly where my last lumbar vertebrae is fused to my sacram. This puts pressure on the discs further up which has caused some bulging of discs causing pain and spasm. There really is no treatment. I can't run, ever again. That makes me really sad as running is the only exercise I have ever enjoyed.

I really need to get exercising. Low impact, easy to do at home and squeeze into a busy life. But I dread it. This is my biggest issue.

So that's me, now the work begins!

You can do it : ). I too struggle with back issues, it's been ten years and just keeps getting worse. With spinal arthritis, degerative disc/joint disease...the list goes on...I am here to take charge of my body and make it as strong as I can : ). What type of exercise are you planning? I just got an elliptical and it's no impact and causes no pain, yay for that : )

Awe, sorry for your troubles.....I never have been a runner, but I've wanted to try and I can't imagine actually GETTING there then to have it disappear. There's lots of great friendship and encouragement here....I love it. I quit WW because it wasn't working for me this time either and joined here just a few weeks ago. Anyone can feel free to add me for some friendship and motivation.

Buy a crosstrainer, there cheap enough. I have problems with my knees and like you cant run again, i found it a good substitute. Best of luck
