Fat loss will be 80% diet. Cardio will lean you out, lifting will add or retain muscle. Everything has it's place.

Stationary cycling? That's what I did when I had trouble with my knee. But lifting helped straighten the dodgy knee out as well as improved my PCOS symptoms. So I lift as well as do a bit of HIIT and kettlebell training.

Heavy lifting may not burn as many calories while you are doing it (although it can if you maintain a rate that keeps your heart rate up) as cardio. However, building or maintaining lean body mass will increase your BMR. There is also more "afterburn" with weight lifting. Cardio (not including HIIT) will have a better burn for the time you do it but doesn't really build any muscle or have an afterburn that would increase BMR.
