Cramp whilst running :(

I would really really appreciate some help. I have been running properly now since January and have always had problems with getting cramp in my right foot. It never happens any other time than while I run and doesnt happen every run but still most.
I have gone through 3 pairs of shoes and the last pair were recommended after getting my gait measured and running style analysed at sweat shop but it is still uncomfortable to run after about 10 mins :(

I have no idea what is causing it or why :(

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

The shoes I was recommended are brooks ravenna as I apparently am neutral in one foot and over pronate very slightly in the other.

How are you tying your shoes? There's a vein and a nerve that run down the top of your foot and if you put pressure on it you will get cramping and/or numbness. There are various ways to tie shoes for running that take that pressure off.

I use the first way shown.

Sometimes too much arch support will cause a cramp as well. I have orthotics I'm supposed wear but they almost cripple me if I try to run with them.

when i first started running i got cramps in my foot as well, i found out it was because a tendon that runs down the bottom of your foot and up your ankle was too tight, i started stretching it out and the cramping went away, to stretch it out, take a baseball/softball/or frozen water bottle and roll it under your foot (focusing mainly on your arch area.

Hope this helps and your cramping goes away!!!

There is a type of arch support that you can buy at most running stores, they are called super feet. They have different inserts for different problems. They run about $30-35. You could try and put one only in the foot that overpronates and see how that feels.

I would try the different lacing techniques first to see if that's it before you spend any more money.

    Thank you :)

Do you guys definitely think its not to do with the actual shoes themselves then ? I really want to run in then outdoors a few times but then I wont be able to take them back.

I doubt it's the shoes if it's happening in all the shoes. I would definitely suggest rolling your foot on a frozen water battle or on a tennis ball several times a day. Search youtube for exercises to do to stretch your foot as well. Don't lace your shoes too tight, try to relax your feet while running. Good luck!

Grab a lacrosse ball and practise self-myofascial release (SMR). In other words, roll each foot around on the ball slowly, paying more attention to where it seems more tender. Have you seen a foam roller? It's the same idea.

I have a pair of Brooks that I installed elastic laces on. They stay laced and you literally slip your feet in and out. I've logged a lot of mileage with them and think they're wonderful. You want enough tension that they don't squeeze your feet, but you don't want them flopping around either. Any running shop should have these. I think they're well worth the investment and will also be buying a set for my new pair of Brooks Ravenna 4's. I've had problems with laces before, between combat boots and running shoes I was always playing with them. I have a pair of Reeboks that no matter how I lace them my feet fall asleep while running. Elastic seems to be the way to go for problems.
