Im a 33 year old guy... 6' 200lbs. In the past 2.5-3 weeks, I've lost about 6-7 pounds.
Im tracking everything I eat on the food tracker here, I absolutely love it.
Each day, it tells me I can have ~1600 calories & 60 grams of protein or so. Every day, Ive consumed more protein than that although Im usually at or below my caloric intake. I dont know if thats a bad thing or not??
For example, today I had a meal bar for breakfast, went to Boston Market for lunch and a piece of white meat rotisserie chicken. The food app on MFP says that the boston market chicken contained 72g of protein alone! :frown:
I havent even had my dinner yet...lol. Since I had a meal bar for breakfast and a "sensible" lunch, Im going to have a slim-fast shake for dinner, which is totally going to push me waaayyyy over for protein. Im still losing weight in small amounts which I like the stability of that and I know its better for me that way, but am I hindering my weight loss with this extra protein?

You should be eating about 1g of protein per pound of "lean body mass", which is what is left after removing the body fat percentage from your body. Do you know your BF%? If not try setting your protein at 150g, which is the average for a man of your size. Set the fat at 25-30% and the remainder to carbs. Higher protein will help you feel satisfied and will hopefully prevent you from falling off the proverbial wagon.

You may also want to check the groups area. Lots of groups for men, which may be helpful for you.
Good luck!0 -

I am 5'0 125 pounds and I aim for 100-120g of protein daily. Your protein intake should be .7-1g of protein per pound of LBM. Through a body fat calculator I found that I have 90 pounds of Lean Body Mass, but I still aim for 120g of protein daily to fuel my muscles. MFP has the target set really low. You can go into the settings and change it yourself. I lowered the amount of carbs I eat daily in order to have room for more protein, then.0

Wow... thanks for the replies everybody!! Im reading through the thread on macros right now.
I appreciate all the feedback. I guess it looks like I shouldnt worry too much about MFP setting my protein intake at 59g and going over 20g like I did yesterday, as that sounds really low anyways for a guy my size/age.
Thanks again! Loving this site btw.0
