Runners with ankle/foot injuries

Have you ever injured your foot and/or ankle? A sprain? Tendonitis? Strain? Was it ever a situation where you couldn't even forsee running on it until it healed?
I had tendonitis in '01 but in my situation, it was severe -- the tendon fully came out of the socket (my right foot rolled to the right so all of my weight went on the side of my right foot) and was a clean break so it didn't need surgery but it was horrible horrible pain for the first month. I was on crutches for awhile and every time I thought it was healing, it would flare up again.
Now, I've rolled my foot, aka same injury as before but not as severe, on a 4 mile trail run last week. Now, it's not even been a week since I injured it....I have upcoming races (May/June) that I need to train for and I'm really starting to fall apart over this thinking that it will take me so much longer to get back into running again & that I'll likely just reinjure it again when I do start running again.
Any advice or insight would be great for recovering from an injury -- Yes, I'm following RICE and wearing the foot brace the doctor gave me. I am not even close to ignoring medical advice on this.

I had a fibula stress fracture late December 2011, diagnosed in January 2012, took about 6 weeks off from running, and ran my first race of the season (4.5 miles) in mid March of that year, about a month after I started running again.0

I had a trimalleolar fracture (broke in 3 places) with dislocation to my right ankle last May, and was just released by my doctor a couple months ago to begin exercise, but still no high impact. Was bummed that I couldn't start running again, because I will miss my 4th Warrior Dash in April! :frown:
I still have 2 pins and 5 screws in my ankle, and it swells up like the Goodyear blimp by the end of the day especially on workout days, but not really any pain during my workouts, just kinda sore/tender and stiff in the evenings. I still can't do a full squat yet, been doing them modified, about half way down. Not sure when my doc will let me start running again? I haven't ran a lot of distance since my days of high school cross country, but did love to run a 5k a few times a week, and just started getting into the mud runs/obstacle course runs with the 5k.0
