Cutting out diet soda

I usually have one can of diet soda a day but wonder if it is messing with my cravings and also the chemicals in it have me leery of drinking them every day. I want to cut them out entirely but every afternoon around 2pm I want one so badly. Anyone else cut out diet soda successfully? Any tips on getting rid of the craving?

I was a much heavier soda drinker when I started - guestimate 6-8 cans a day and I drank both diet and full sugar. What worked for me to cut them out was allowing myself to have one if I was craving it for more than an hour and I had at least 8-16 ounces of water to drink during that hour. I went from 6-8/day to about 1 a day for a week to about 1 every 2-3 days for a week to none. I haven't had a soda since Thanksgiving day and it didn't taste that good and the carbonation was almost painful.

What are you craving at that time, the caffeine or the carbonation? If it's the caffeine, then many suggest replacing it with either coffee or green tea. If it's the carbonation, you can look into seltzer or sparkling waters.

    Good luck!

.Yes...I did!! I've just recently allowed myself to have a 1/2 a cup of sprite as a treat Sunday (or 1 of those days) as cheat days. But I switched to sparkling water with lemon/lime essence and splashed it with pineapple, cranberry, etc. Eventually I've left the juices out and just drink the sparkling water

Yeah I used to have a diet coke every day with lunch. It definitely was messing with my cravings and also I think the bubbles bothered my stomach during my workouts after work so I weened myself off of them slowly. I went down to every other day, then 2 days a week, then 1, etc. Now I'll have a diet coke maybe once or twice a month and it doesn't cause any problems.

Oooo girl. I use to drink soda like water for 7 years. I grew up with pop. My pops would always buy racks on racks of pop. I cut it colddd. I lost 5lbs from cutting it out.

I don't trust diet soda cause it sounds like a Chemical poop storm.

If you want to drink diet pop, drink diet pop. It has no calories and will not effect your weight loss. Extra fat on the body is much more harmful than any of the chemicals in diet pop. We're living in the golden age of diet pop. enjoy it. I do(bout to drink some cherry coke zero)

Which chemicals are you concerned about? I'm hoping this doesn't turn into another aspartame thread. Let's get some facts out of the way. In your body, Aspartame metabolizes into 3 things, Aspartate, Methanol, and Phenylalanine. All 3 of which are found in MUCH higher concentrations in naturally occurring foods that you are likely already consuming.

Phenylalanine and Aspartic acid (both amino acids) are found in cabbage, fish, eggs, dairy.
Methanol is in tomatoes, strawberries, etc.
