    That is often the case, yes. I never gave into the temptation of straps, I started deadlifting a whopping 115lbs without 'em, but slowly progressed to 405 without them. I seldom do more than 5 reps at a time though on heavy weights, so grip strength is adequate for it.

    The thing people forget is you MUST train your forearms if you want good grip strength. It just doesn't come without it for most people.

    Straps are essential for power-lifters. The rest can get by without them if they train from the beginning without them.

    Couple things:

    First and foremost, an empty Cybex arc trainer machine. This is my go-to cardio machine and helps me burn a lot of calores to eat and...

    The extremely cute, Eminem looking guy at the gym. Yes ladies, awesome body, beautiful tats, cute face/features and always makes his way over to say hi to me or wave (which is really a plus because I hate for people to talk to me while I'm doing my cardio thing).

    True. I did roughly the same. Stalled around 385 for a few reps and from then on my back strength was limited by grip strength, as it is with every person on the planet. Threw on straps and left 405 in the dust. Straps are awesome. That extra rep or extra plate = back growth

    SEXY: Fit women killing it on the Arc Trainer.
    NOT-SO-MUCH: Anyone doing Level 1 @ 1 resistance on the Arc Trainer while reading a magazine or on the phone.

    SEXY: Women in the free weight section, focused look, lifting dumbbells over 10 pounds.
    NOT-SO-MUCH: A 'bro' trying to impress everyone by dumbbell pressing so much weight he farts.

    SEXY: Women grunting while they lift.
    NOT-SO-MUCH: Men grunting while staring at women while they lift.

    The hot thang in pigtails, booty shorts, and tank that was on the treadmill in front of my elliptical two weeks ago. Although I thought the full makeup and excessive jewelry was a little over doing it....but, maybe she had to pole dance or something after her workout. :laugh:

    What's really sexy is when they work-in with you... AND put more weight on...

    I had this happen when I was recovering from spinal surgery. I was doing a light set at 185 at the time, and the squat racks were busy ... This absolutely stunning girl - likely in her mid 20's - asked if she could work in with me... (which initially made me feel GREAT until she said I reminded her of HER DAD) ... and she put weight on... I found it both emasculating and sexy-as-all-get-out at the same time.

    I use these so I can focus on working my target muscle rather than wrestling with the weight. My Lats can pulldown a hell of a lot more weight than my fingers can hold so the hooks let my hands relax and gives me more energy for the pulldowns. Plus they are great wrist supports.

    Grip strength is important for ... *lots* of things... I'll take the bare-handed guys any day :bigsmile:

    most people look at me like "wtf are those..." when I wear mine. I'm the only person I've ever seen with them on. Their loss, the key to a huge back is straps and deadlifts and rows.

    Nice to see that started a discussion on wraps. lol. I don't know the pros/cons of either but know I can definitely lift a lot more when I use them. And the guys that use them (at least in my gym) seem to be the strongest.
