Weights for Women

Need recommendations for weight lifting for an older woman. I'm 62 and not looking to add bulky muscles just want to be able to burn more calories by having more muscles. What should I buy: barbell, weights, weighed bar, free weights???? Plus need an easy plan to follow. Any suggestions?

I know someone who is a personal trainer for elderly clients. I asked her your question, and she emailed me this link:

She said that if crunches won't work for you, then lying down and doing knee raises might work as a substitute.
