SO, I have been using my HRM for a little over a month now, mostly doing Hiit and regular cardio. My question is.. Should I stop the HRM after cardio warm up and restart it when I go into my strength training? does it work well with strength training? I will probably be doing a little cardio after my lifting as well (not totally decided on that yet). Or do I keep it on the whole time from the time I start the warm up until after the cardio following the lifting?
Also. I have a polar4? and I was wondering if anyone knew how accurate it would track swimming? Or if It could even go in the water at all!

why would you sop it after the warm up? not sure that makes any sense to me at all, i keep mine on for the duration of my workout no matter what i am doing, have no clue about swimming sorry
edited to add, when i ma doing strength training i keep an eye on my heart rate and in between lifting e.t.c i use the step for about a minute to bring my heart rate up again i do this about 5 times throughout my strength training session to just keep my heart rate up there, (although haven't been to the gym in ages but that's what i did when i went)0 -
Well, I am new to serious weight training ( I am going today to find my 1RM's) and I didn't know how to track the Strength training under Cardio on MFP or what? I know my heart rate while dong Hiit is in the 180s whereas when I lift its in the 125-155 range, I didn't know If I needed to record them separately to know what I burned where.0

I use it for each bit of my session - so all the bits of cardio, and then start it for strength.
For strength - at best- it will give you a bit of an estimate but sounds like you have a plan to get your heart rate up in your session - I have laid my session out to include TRX squats and lunges about half way through to get the heart pumping again.,
I have an FT7 and it happily goes in the pool with me - I think the FT4 does too (my friend has that one and I am 99% sure she swims with it)- but check online.0 -
HRMs give false readings for strength training because your heart rate stays elevated during rests between sets but you are doing no work. They only work (badly) during cardio but even then they are only a rough estimate for the purpose of calorie count.
A cheap watch would give you your heart rate just as well as a HRM for what its worth.0
