Weighing food

I have ckn in the crock pot w/ salsa for ckn tacos. How are you supposed to weigh the ckn? Won't it weigh more because of the soaking up the liquid?

I weigh all of my ingredients prior to processing the meal. I use the recipe builder a lot.

Meat should always be weighed prior to cooking.

If you are suppose to weigh prior to cooking, then how do you know how much you are eating? For instance, a crockpot full of chicken...if you don't eat the entire crockpot of chicken over the course of a week or maybe share it with your family, then how can you be accurate?

OP, I measure mine after cooking. Maybe it's not right, but it's probably more accurate for me this way since I don't eat the entire batch that I'm cooking.

Right. I put 3-4 ckn brsts in for the whole fam. Not just mine, hence to confusion =/

Use the recipe builder, put all your ingredients for the dish in, then say how many portions it makes. If you eat a smaller portion than the rest of your family, count yours as one portion then guestimate how many other portions there were (say two others that were 1.5 the size of yours, which would be 4 total portions).

I weigh all my ingredients individually.

'cuz everything is 100% accurate when it comes to this...

    /sarcasm

Really...when you look up a recipe on-line, the calories in that recipe are calculated using the dry ingredients used to make the recipe. So If I'm making a stew that calls for 16 oz of chicken, I measure 16 oz of chicken before I prepare the stew, not afterwards. When serving myself, I will then serve up the appropriate serving size...i.e. 1/2 cup or whatever...I don't sit there and make sure I have exactly 4 Oz of chicken in my bowl of stew...bit too OCD for me.

If you look up a recipe online and it gives you all of the ingredients and tells you it is XXX calories per serving...you do understand that those measurements are dry...before assembled right?

Personally, I think you're over thinking this.

    lol.......your probably right.
  • Put it all in. Weigh and measure and log all foods prior to cooking.
If it feeds 4, divide total cals by 4 for your portion.
    Not hard.
