Don’t walk into the gym and do whatever you feel like that day. Aimless weight lifting workouts are really a poor form of exercise. To build muscle, you need to get on a program. Major factors in muscle gains are recovery and progressive overload. Are you adding weight on a consistent basis?

Building muscle requires a consistent effort over a considerable amount of time, months, years, or even a lifetime. If you’ve been working out “on and off” it’s not much better than “not at all” when it comes to your physique and muscle mass. Be consistent, or find a more productive hobby.

Consistently following a good training program, getting adequate rest, and keeping your nutrition in check will do far more for your physique than details like supplements, drop sets, or making sure you drink a protein shake within 30 minutes of leaving the gym. Don’t sweat the small stuff at the expense of the things that will drive 90+% of your development.

Good points! I have seen more progress in the short time I have been following stronglifts then all the months I just exercised.
