One arm stronger than the other?

Is that normal? I'm not a serious heavy lifter or anything, but I deft would train that way if I had the availability to, but I live in a small town and don't have access to a gym. I started with 30DS with 3 lb dumbbells, and now I'm in my 4th week of Jillian's Body Revolution using 5lbs and 8lbs depending on the move.

Anyways, I have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm starting to feel the muscles building and my left arm moreso than my right arm. Which isn't unusual since I'm left handed and I carry my 27lb son around in that arm alot, but is it normal to feel stronger on one side than the other?

And also, is what I have enough to tone or do I HAVE to heavy lift to REALLY tone? The 8lb's are the heaviest I have right now and I love using them if I can. I've been contemplating going up to 10s and eventually 20s. Or maybe getting a barbell and some free weights gradually as I go, or some kettlebells or weighted balls.

Yes, your dominant side is usually stronger.

I always pick kettlebells. They are the answer to almost everything. Make sure you take instruction from a certified individual to ensure your are doing the swings properly, though. That is money well spent. Then all you need is Kettlebells, and you can junk the rest of your program. Unless you like blowing hours of your life in front of your TV with DVD's, then by all means keep doing them.

eh I only do 30 minutes in front of the TV or 30 minutes doing c25k. I've been very curious about kettlebells though I admit, they look very fun.

Do it. Best workout you can get , strength and cardio at the same time, and it is done quickly. Leaves more time for living the rest of your life. I would do kettlebells just for fun, even if it wasn't the most effective form of exercise.

My left bicep and tricep muscles are stronger (I am right-handed). So for the past few weeks, I've been trying to squeeze an extra half- to full- rep with my right arm on various arm exercises. So far, nada. Heh, I'm probably making my right forearm bigger in the process which if becomes noticeable, might make me a target for some teasing.

Good luck on your fitness progress! It sounds like you're making good strides. Hope you're taking measurements and pictures, so you can compare every couple of months or so! Sounds like you'll see the differences in doing so.

Yes, I do weekly measurements and monthly pictures. I've lost around 25 inches total from all over since I started in January. It sounds like a lot but it's only a handful from different areas, but I'll take it lol
