Knee problems

I have had left knee clicking for awhile. No pain, just clicking but I notice that some moves I cannot achieve good form. My right knee goes numb sometimes when I'm sleeping. Anyone else have issues like this?? Should I see an ortho??

Yes, definitely. If it's bothering you enough to post about it here (to a group of non-medical professionals), then it's definitely worth a visit to your doctor.

I'm no Dr. but i am also no stranger to knee pain. I know nothing of the knee falling asleep, but I would venture to say that is more positional than anything else. Maybe associated with your back. As for the clicking, sounds like a cartilage problem, and basically since you stated it prevents full movement, I would take the precautionary step and visit an Ortho.0

I would definately suggest seeing a doctor. Numbness may not be in your knee but in your lower back. A pinched nerve possibly. The only way to know for sure is to seek medical advice. Clicking in your knee is usually cartilige. If there is no pain that is a good sign. A simple X-ray can tell the Doc if there are other issues.
Your knees are very important joints to keep healthy to continue with weight lose and fitness goals.0 -
I agree, definitely see your doctor/ortho. You don't want it to turn into something more serious while you're still working out on it. (I'm the same - I'll workout through an in jury before I go to the Doc.)0

the clicking can be helped with some Colostrum. and i would forgo the ortho for now and go to a chiropractor, and see what he suggests from there. ive had problems all my life with my hips due to an injury when i was younger, and the doctors just wanted me to take pain meds- i was 12 at that point. went to a chiropractor and bam. fixed and no more pain. now i try to get in every few months just to get everything all fixed up and get me back to moving the way i should :P
but yea. vitamins first, chiropractor- they are pretty cost friendly for the most part, and then see what he/she suggests.0 -

It could be a tag of cartilage, a meniscus tear, to name a couple of things. I have had a clicky knee for about 25 years. Sometimes it is painful. When I was younger my parents never took us to the doctor for anything. It's a shame, because it could have saved me years of trouble.0

Go. My clicking and aching knee was a result of a super tight IT band, loose ACL, and weak inner quads. The pt gave me a series of floor exercises that, when I am consistant, strenthens and loosens my leg so that it is problem-free, balanced and strong.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. My right knee clicked when I walked, it was loud enough my boss could hear me coming down the hall!! There was also a gravely feeling to both knees when I bent and straightened. I kept asking my regular dr. if there wasnt something we could do... He never gave me a good response. So years later, I finally went to see an orthopedic/sports surgeon. I got injection in my knees (cortizone) helped alot, the clicking went away and the gravely feeling was gone. I got a 2nd set of shots about 7 months later, but it dient help my right knee at all, and sometimes when I would move at night in my sleep, something in my right knee moved would wake me up screaming, it hurt so bad.
The knee dr. did a scope and moved two pieces of cartlidge, that knee is bad enough we are discussing a knee replacement. My left knee hasnt had a cortizone shot since last july 12. It is doing great, but my right knee, I am using a cane most days.
SOOOOO, I would get a referral from your doc. to a bone/joint specialist and see whats going on and what they can do. Dont be stupid like me and wait years and years.
FYI: every 10 lbs you are over weight, is = to 100 on your knees. So I am currently about 750 lbs extra on my knees than I need to be. I have lost 520 lbs on the knees since I started with MFP.0 -
I was not being rude. I was engaged to an Asian man and he had a similar way of talking/writing. I was not trying to be flippant, just making an observation. I am from Puerto Rico and over the years I have heard several people say Puerto Rican people are loud, etc. It is part of my culture so I am not offended by it at all.0

I will be seeing an ortho as I am concerned about the numbness when I sleep. Being a nurse for 20+ years has definitely taken a toll on my body. I posted this not for medical advice but to see what some of you have experienced.0 -
I would get it checked with whomever you are comfortable seeing on your knee click.
Things that happen that generally do not happen prior is usually not a great sign.
I've had knee clicks before, achilles clicks, because of high impact stress on joints and tendons that were not accustomed to that high-impact and rate of progression I was going at (Over-training).
The commenter who mentioned the super tight IT band that had clicking knees, I had likewise.
I didn't stop until it almost destroyed my hip flexor.
If I were you I would ice your knee post the work-outs that are heavy duty on your knees.
Dynamic stretching prior the work-out. (laying on a flat surface -supine- with whichever side the knee click is happening and slowly raising up for 4 counts and down for 4 counts).0 -
