buying eggs

ok so dumb question, and I guess I'm too confused to figure this out myself
How many eggs to buy to last for 2 weeks or more?
Last trip I bought 2 cases of 18 and 1 with 12.
I fed myself and family, but you can just give an estimate for me
I haven't been eating the same foods everyday, that's why I'm not sure
how many to calculate.
I'm needing 150g a day for protein.
my diary is open for examples of how I ate them.
I also love hard boiled and will be eating plenty of those

Well if you think you'll be having an egg a day roughly for 14 days then buy the pack of 12.
I tend to get a pack of 6 for 1 week shopping and might have one or two left over, but they last for awhile. I think 18 would be eggcessive for one person.0 -
if you look at my diary i never eat just 1 egg a day, i'm trying to get a lot of protein. this is twice as much as I'm used to.
i have a minimum of 2-3 eggs when I have them for breakfast as the main component. but i don't eat them for breakfast everyday.
my point of telling how many I bought the last trip was that it's been less than 2 weeks, and i've already used all the eggs.0 -
2 eggs per day per person if you eat a lot of them, also eggs will be fresh for 3 weeks so long as you don't put them in the fridge! sounds like you should get some hens0

48 eggs in less that 2 week's?!?0

I buy 10 dz a week for just myself. I use the eggs for a variety of items (soy pancakes, bean breads, eggs, salads, frittatas, etc.)
Roughly 4 whole eggs (or 6 egg whites) will provide 20 grams of protein. Don't be afraid to eat the egg yolks. Research is finding out the animal-based feed fed to the chickens in the 60s is what caused the bad cholesterol (LDL) scare. Most producers have switched to a grain based, vegetarian based feed which causes the yolks to contain good (HDL) cholesterol. Buying from a local farmer, free range eggs are best as the omega and HDL will be higher.0 -
why not?0

Much better sources of protein than eggs, such as greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, lean chicken and turkey, salmon, seafood. Also 150g a day seems excessive. I would have to agree with Pu there.0

If you eat 2-3 eggs a day, then you should buy enough for 3 eggs a day... Not sure why this is hard to work out?0

i weigh 220, my LBM is 150as stated in the OP
. if im lifting heavy while losing weight this is what is recammended, eat 1g of protein a day for your LBM or if you are healthy weight your bodyweight. this is to reduce muscle loss.
i'm fine with not eating that much everyday. i seem to be having results right now wtih less, and am satisfied and full from my meals.
i'm not really sure what an average week is yet, this is the first time i've ever tried to eat so much protein. my diary has nuts, seeds, tofu, turkey burgers, white chicken, tuna, sardines and beans. i just thought someone who has more experience with eating this way for a long time, could tell me how many they buy, but i'll just go with 6/21=6 eggs a day for 3 weeks is 121. just forget it that's not happening.
ETA: i did post this when I was really tired, I surely could've worked this out had I been more awake, that's why I expected sarcasm.0 -
I usually buy depending on the sale price, my coupons etc... when I get down to 2 eggs I go back for more. Eggs keep for quite a while so you don't have ever worry about buying too many. I say buy one of those big crates that holds three dozen. That should last at least one week. In my house at least.0

You're not supposed to put them in the fridge? I always do.
I don't understand the question, can't you just buy more if you need more?0 -

I rarely refrigerate my eggs. Of course, a dozen eggs doesn't last long here, but eggs will be good for months actually even outside of refrigeration. I am living proof that it wont kill ya!0 -
eggs are good and all, but, you aren't a [ovo] vegetarian are you? ( I looked, you're not) Im not sure, but, cholesterol content might actually matter after a certain point... why not eat lean meats (if cutting)... Buy frozen chicken in bulk. Buy cheap meats and slow cook them.
I buy pork tenderloin at Sams club for 1.99 a pound when 9# packages... i buy frozen chicken breasts too... whatever works....
at 1.99# you could cover your protein for 3$ a day... thats like the same price as cheap eggs
everything in moderation.... I couldn't say eating 20 eggs a day would have no adverse effects... not to mention that would make 1400 (probably 2/3) of your calories eggs which seems like a bad idea
yeah.. I never answered your question... i know.... umm.. buy 100 and throw the extras at someones house that you dislike...0 -

I'd agree with this if you own hens and get fresh eggs. But store bought eggs are already months old by the time you bring them home. And they were already brought up to refrigeration temp, so I would continue to put them in the fridge.0 -
I am sure it depends on the egg shipment. I doubt the eggs are months old by the time they get to the store. I have eaten more eggs that had been at room temp for 7+ days than I can count. I believe that because they have been pasteurized they say the eggs should be refrigerated. However, If someone is eating raw or undercooked eggs then holding them at room temp may leave room for food poisoning. I don't like undercooked eggs so I figure it's okay.0

Once the eggs are cold and then left on the counter (or anywhere besides the fridge), condensation is formed and that can cause bacteria growth. But, you are right, you are probably more than okay since you cook the eggs completely.0

Ummm..my son threw eggs at houses when he was 14 and a guy chased him and his buddies down and held them at gunpoint for 30+ minutes before the police found them 10 miles out of town. The guy got 2 yrs for terrorizing, but my son still got arrested for throwing the eggs in the first place. Moral of my story? I don't recommend throwing the leftover eggs! (PS all is well that ends well-but it's a lesson he won't soon forget!) Sorry I know this doesn't answer the original question. lol0 -
i'm just going to forget concentrating on eggs. buy the reg amount, have them once in a while like I was before.
I was trying to avoid needing to buy a lot of meat, more than I already do. we really eat mostly chicken. which just seems to keep
going up. there's tuna too, that's cheap, but at a certain point I worry about mercury. so seems, the best options is to get some whey protein, and focusing on the lean meats. I was trying to save money last few months by eating less meat myself, but for now at least I'm eating so much less of other stuff, I may not need to buy as much groceries. I'll have to see how this plays out over a couple weeks. I'm already spending 7-800/month on groceries to feed us. 2 adults and 3 grade school kids. I already cook everything at home. much of that was veggies and stuff that I just haven't been hungry to eat these last couple days since I'm eating drastically more protein.
point being I have to cut something if i'm spending more on meat. I'm prob. fine just eating 100g-120g of protein which is about where I am recently. I don't know it'll take some experimenting I guess to see what works best.
I've been eating tons of fiber stuff -fruits, veggies, oats, legumes, raisin bran, being the most filling components of my diet for a really long time. most of a decade gradually transitioning more and more. I never tried the high protein 'diets' they all seem like complete bs, and when I ate meat/eggs/bacon before it didn't keep me full. I was still hungry soon after, but with something like lentils I might not be hungry for 4 hours, often longer.
so everything in my instincts is saying this (me being not hungry for hours and hours on this high protein) is just temporary and my body is getting used to it , then it will be like before. but if not, then I could save a lot of dough, bc I'm eating so much less often now.0 -

A liquid turning in to a gas is obviously evaporation. This obviously requires higher temperatures.
Well, the eggs do condensate after a half an hour, but I usually dry them off and there is never more condensation unless they happen to get put back in the fridge and brought out again. It is rare that this happens.0
