Peace Corps Volunteer Looking to Get Lean

Hello MFP People,

I've actually been on this site before but thought that, as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, I wouldn't have much use for it. Turns out I was pretty wrong. The diet over here is pretty much 70% simple carbohydrates with veggies and meat on the side. I'm not knocking the food, it's delicious, but after two months with one host family and one more to go with another, I'd like to get more "on" when it comes to my weight.

I'm 5' 6" and weigh about 160. Quite frankly, most of it's muscle, but you wouldn't know that over the inch or two of flab I've got covering it. When I finally get on my own (which will, inchallah, be in about a week or two) I'm planning on going as Paleo as possible. It should be relatively easy, I've got a daily suk here (which is like a fresh farmers market filled with everything from snails to fresh oranges), organic-ish butchers, eggs from free-range chickens, and all the nuts and dates I could possibly want.

As for exercise, my town is pretty hilly, which'll be killer for my legs. There's also a karate studio nearby, and I've always wanted to learn so I thought I'd give it a try. Aside from that I have an assortment of Jillian Michael's videos on my laptop which I try to do six days a week.

What else? Not much. Uh, I like to write and hope one day to become an author. I'm loving my time in the Peace Corps so far and really hope that I can make a difference when it comes to my community.

I think that's it. I'd really like some friends on here to help keep me accountable. If anyone is interested feel free to message/friend me.

Le sigh. My host mom is great but she's like, making French fries for lunch. On top of the pasta we'd had for the last three nights and the sugary tea it's getting to be a bit much.
