So very frustrating...

Okay - so I have had success since starting this in January. I have lost 19 lbs by eating properly, working out, and taking care of myself. Then this last weekend came.

Friday - hosted Pampered Chef fundraiser at my home for the American Cancer Society... so I ate a lot of yummy foods. I stayed away from the desserts, but I did eat more calories than I am used to eating. And I had 2 glasses of alcohol (not low calorie alcohol --- a delicious mixture of mango rum, cocconut rum, pineapple juice & cranberry/pomagranate juice... sooooo yummy...)

Saturday - walked a 5K with my 8yr old daughter. I had been planning on running it (I am not a runner) but I sprained my ankle on Wednesday and it is still giving me trouble. Yeah - that doesn't help much... And walking the 5K didn't help my ankle much. Then Saturday night we went to a Cinco De Mayo party. Yes, you guessed it --- another drink (this one w/ kahlua & cream... I am normally a pretty good vegan but am a sucker for kahlua which I had not had since December.) AND all the food at the party was covered in cheese. Again, I managed to avoid the desserts. Being allergic to tree nuts has its benefits... if I don't know the origin of the dessert & what ingredients might be in it, then I won't eat it. :o)

Sunday - not bad in terms of food, but no working out. And I did munch more than planned in the evening (when I normal get on the treadmill for an hour) so I went over on my calories... was so frustrated with myself that I did not log the last 250 calories.

This morning - nearly 2 lbs up from Thursday morning. And my ankle still hurts. I am afraid that I will get out of the working out mode and find it hard to get back into it. I am determined not to let that happen, but it is hard since I focus a lot on the treadmill and zumba! KINDA NEED 2 LEGS FOR THAT! I am a member of Curves and I plan to go today after I get off or preschool and work my upperbody only... but I worry about losing my momentum.

Today, I will do my best to eat as much raw food (fruits & veggies) as possible. I had a spoonful of peanut butter to get me started w/ a little protein. But I will try to have a raw food day to get me going again.

Any suggestions on calorie burning w/out being able to really do cardio?!?!

Thanks for listening and allowing me to vent. Hopefully I got all my frustration out and can go to school with a better attitude than I had when I got on the scale this am! (Doesn't help that it is a crappy rainy day...)

you will get those two lbs off quickly! Don't worry about the weekend. As long as it isn't EVERY weekend it is okay. Do you like swimming? that is a great cardio burner! I am not sure if you can do that with your ankle.

unfortunately, i have never learned to properly swim... i can hold my own out there in a pool, but don't know any proper strokes... that is a good idea, however... maybe I can take lessons for dummies!! do they even teach 38 yr olds how to swim?!?! haha! my kids are swimmers, though, so at least I made sure they were taken care of!!

I bet you're retaining water or you still have food in your system slowly making its way down. Cant exercise, get yourself into a sauna and sweat some of that water out!!

If you're good the next several days I'm sure the bloat will go away. Don't worry about it.

2 lbs up is probably water weight. Don't fret about it. Sometimes the change in calories and lack of exercise shocks our bodies and in the end it can benefit you. As for right now, you need to drink more water and flush that sodium out!!

As far as working out goes.... I suggest boxing. Low in pact on your lower joints, but MAN you can work up a sweat in no time!!

If youre not comfortable with strokes, you could always grab a kickboard (you hold onto it and just kick) and do laps that way!

Yes, swimming is a great idea. Jillian Michaels also recommends punches for people with lower body injuries. Just squat as much as possible to have some tension in the legs, and keep abs tight. That may be kind of boring to do for an extended period of time, but maybe you can add it to swimming. Hope you heal quickly!

I highly doubt you're up 2 pounds since Thursday. A likely guess is that you're retaining water due to sodium. Watch your sodium, up your water and be careful on your ankle. RICE it and try to stay off of it. Not sure how bad your sprain is, but I had a 4th degree ankle sprain that landed me on crutches for 3 weeks. I returned too fast and did too much (the doctors OKed me) and I ended up in physical therapy for 8 months. I know it's frustrating, but try not to make it worse. It'll only be more frustrating if you don't take care of yourself now and end up doing more damage (and having to be off of it for longer). Good luck!

I agree that you probably did not gain 2 lbs of fat since Thursday... it's probably water weight. But I completely understand the fear of losing momentum.
Personally, with a sprained ankle - I wouldn't do much swimming... walking in the water, maybe - but kicking could aggravate your ankle more. Do you have access to a stationary bike? Try sitting in a chair BEHIND the bike and working the pedals - that'll keep you from having to flex your foot quite so much but will give you a cardio workout. How about Pilates or Yoga? Maybe buy/rent a DVD? Take a couple of days to mainly work on your core and stretching. And silly as it may sound - I know that there are cardio work outs for people in wheelchairs - you might do a search for those... I used to work with people with Spina Bifida and we did a lot of arm/upper body workouts.
Just be careful... and don't overdo anything. Taking care of your ankle is the most important thing right now... you'll come back from this and be better than ever!

As someone who cannot do standing exercises well i found a youtube video of "chairrobics" some of the exercises are with your feet but not as bad as if you have to stand maybe that helps you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=DE&hl=de&v=P3jhx4F0oAc&feature=user
He has also some more great videos, more chair-robics and there are other chair-robics videos that are longer and you could maybe combine some of them if one is too short for you. They are totally fun and his enthusiasm is contagious :)

And i agree with others. Don't stress yourself over one weekend. As long it is not regular it's okay to have a weekend "off limits". You'll get it down again :)
