Do any of you use a reward-type system for reaching your mini-goals? If so, what are your rewards? Do they help with your motivation?

I didn't start out using rewards, but to keep me motivated I threw them in as I got within 5 pounds of my goals. New haircut and pedicure have been two of mine. I also gave up alcohol (kind of by accident) 6 weeks ago, and when I get down to 125 (5 pounds away from my final goal) I'm allowing myself to indulge in my favourite beer :)

After 10 lbs, I'm getting a massage! I never had one before and I'm dying to get a full professional one. So it's keeping me motivated.

Since the weight isn't just melting off, I had to change my reward and goals. For May I started "clean eating" and bought myself an empty charm bracelet. For June, July, and August, my husband and kids are each going to buy me a charm of their choice, one per month, to remind me of why I am doing this.

I'm also going to the beach with my daughter in a couple of weeks which is loaded with all my favorite "junk", and I want to be good. So my husband has agreed to buy me either a dress or sandals that I have been wanting from REI to help me be good.

Sometimes, you might need to reward the DEDICATION rather than the weight loss, as that can go slower and we can get discouraged.

When I reach 20lbs I will buy a heart rate/calorie monitor. I bought a new exercise DVD for 10lbs. I try to buy little things that motivate me to continue this journey. :flowerforyou:

That sounds like a pretty good mini-goal reward to me.

OOOh the massage sounds divine =)

Personally I like the idea of celebrating in some way when a goal is reached, no matter how small that goal may be. It's a big motivator for me. I don't believe in rewarding with sweets, but things that help me keep motivated. I'm planning little things like a new workout DVD, a cute outfit for the gym, etc.

    Great ideas everyone!
