Hi! I've been on Fitness Pal a couple different times for a period of months.
Recently my A1C number came back over 11 which meant it had gone up a
couple points. I don't really understand as I have been eating better but do
need to get exercise into the equation. I've also lost some weight recently.
I believe part of it is due to stress in my life as that has been more prevalent
of late. Anyway, the last two weeks I have really been determined to make
permanent changes in my life to be healthier. Anyone want a friend to be
an encourager I'm here for you and could use your help too! Thanks!

I'm not diabetic.. I have hypoglycemia, which is the opposite but can turn into it. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family too. I really need to watch my sugar level to prevent from getting it later in life but I honestly just having been thinking about it that much. =[0

Hi there,
I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in December of 2010 with an HbA1c of 12.2% and fasting blood glucose of 268. I was also morbidly obese, unfortunately.
3 months later I got my HbA1c to 7.0%
Another 3 months it was down to 6.0%
... as of today - 2 years and four months later, it's 5.2% and wonderfully controlled.
The key for me was an LCHF (Low-Carb/High-Fat) diet combined with regular exercise. If your A1c is still at 11% you are at extremely high risk for complications. It's well-known that damage is continually happening at any blood glucose level above 140mg/dl (7.8 mmol/L) which you are obviously at A LOT.
Eliminate all your refined carbohydrate (flours, sugars) get ALL your carbs from non-starchy veggies (no corn, potatoes, parsnips, etc.) and limited (moderation) lower-GI fruit.
More information and scientific studies showing LCHF works best for diabetics is available at Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt's website: www.dietdoctor.com (sounds like a commercial site, but isn't) or my favorite: www.diabetesforum.com
Do yourself a favor and check out Dr. Richard K. Bernstein's excellent book: 'Diabetes Solution' much of which is also available online at www.diabetes-book.com AND one of the best diabetes information sites: Blood Sugar 101: www.bloodsugar101.com
