Water weight fluctuations - this much?!?

Hey!

So this is day 3 for me of a refined sugar-free, healthy diet (plus a couple of 5k runs and two 60 min yoga practices in the last 2 days). My starting weight was 131 lbs (weighed in the morning before eating/drinking); I just weighed myself again this morning, and the scales say around 122 lbs! I checked a few times and it did vary (I have a cheap electronic set of scales) but it was in the 121-122 mark every time...I assumed my scales wouldn't be spot on, but I didn't think they'd be 10 lbs out.

So my question is, is it possible to have lost nearly 10 lbs in water weight in 2 days??! I did have a VERY bad week of eating (LOADS of junk food = sodium and sugar) which is why I'm not instantly dismissing it...but even so, it seems like a lot. Your thoughts welcome...even if you just want to tell me to get a new set of scales!

Thanks :)

so in one morning in just a couple of hours a 10 pound change? It is a scale problem. With you size being so small there is no way it could change that much

Not a couple of hours, 3 days.

Yes, it is possible, especially if you've had a very bad week the week before, but it's unlikely that you will maintain all of that loss, so don't be disheartened if the scale goes back up a little when your body catches up with itself.

PMS causes me to gain 7-10# like clockwork every 27 days. Could that be part of the scale change?

Even though you were probably really glad with the massive weight loss over just a few days...I think it's not a true weight. You probably have lost maybe half of that with all the new eating plan and exercise. I know myself that my body weight does fluctuate a lot, especially round the ladies time of the month. I sometimes get on the scales and wonder how it happens! My weight is similar to yours.... but I've never had a 10lb loss in a few days. It's time to get yourself some new fancy scales. Wishing you all the best.

See my post above- yes, my scale changes that much in a day or two.

I think some of it could be from a little water weight/loss of it but I think it would mainly be attributed to the scales not being quite right....

Yes, it's entirely possible (water and glycogen reduction in the main I suspect.)

Its very possible, Im not sure at your size. I weight 240, if I go hard all weekend, and drink and eat whatever I want, im usually up 6-8 lbs, and by Tuesday when i get things back under control I can usually loose that 6-8 back. I have lost anywhere from 2-3 over night, so Yes it is possible. But I would try another scale just to be sure.

If you have like 5lbs water weight and then lose 5lbs of fat...yup. I lost like 10lbs my first week of dieting. Believe it girly.

Yes it's possible. Last week I lost 4 lbs of water weight between around 9pm last Wednesday evening and 6am Thursday morning.

Thanks guys...pretty cool, even if it's not real fat weight (which of course it couldn't be)!

Hadn't even thought about the time of the month thing - I started my period yesterday, normally you weigh a bit more just before don't you? So I suppose with a combination of water weight and pre-period weight, maybe it's not quite so surprising.

If you weigh yourself daily (like I do) you will see when you gain the Time of the month weight. I gain three days before and it lasts about 10 days total. My rings get so right I can't wear them.
