Standing at Work

I do a desk job and I am trying to stand and walk around more at work.
Does standing actually burn calories and can I add this to my diary?

I'd like to know if anyone has an actual number they use. On LiveStrong's website, they claim a 200+ lb person:
A 200 lb person burns 726 calories while standing quietly for eight hours and 1,670 calories performing eight hours of office work while standing. One hour of casual walking burns 181 calories."
Which I'd love if this were true, but is this really true? I have switched also from sitting all day at work and all night at home to standing at work and walking up the stairs to the 5th floor at work, but is there any "weight" to the declaration that I'm actually burning 726 calories standing at my desk working(and while typing out this comment :-) ) for 8 hours? And does this hold true for a worker such as a cashier who is always standing, or would there burn be less since their bodies get used to standing?
Any response would be great on this one!0 -
It will minimally increase your burned calories. It is not worth adding to your diary. Some standing is taken into account with the sedentary lifestyl modifier. You'll be artificially inflating your calorie burn, and, especially if you're one who eats back their exercise calories, you could hinder your progress.0
