Every now and then my church will have a congregation picnic, and everyone brings a dish. Now usually i would have been eager to show off a new dessert i learned or make a "hearty meal"(mashed potatoes with loads of butter and garlic, party potatoes, things of that sort). So I was determined to bring a vegetable dish. I had made this garlic and olive oil baked asparagus before, and i looove it, so i decided thats what i would make.. I made four bundles and the dish was a HIT. I had so many women coming up and asking me for the recipe, and even kids the kids enjoyed the dish. Every last bit was gone and i heard people asking for more.
also, another accomplishment is that i gave up red meat and pork, and what was at the picnic??? My FAVORITE THINGS...tri tip and hot links. there was even lasagna:((....but i stuck to it and grabbed my asparagus, grilled chicken, beans and bread and was perfectly content while i watched everyone munch on the links as drool came down the side of my mouth( ok so i wasn't CONENT per se, but i was much happier for making better choices) and when dessert came around instead of grabbing everything in sight, i had one sugar cookie and a tiny sliver of coconut cream pie(i couldn't resist those just yet) so. hopefully i can keep resisting the temptations and be able to post some *after pic* sooner than i think.
Well besides tooting my own horn, i wanted to make this a discussion post. What are some of the hardest things you have had to give up?

I know it sounds awful but the hardest thing for me to give up was beer. I used to drink a couple beers like every night when I got home and I've stopped that now. (for the most part)
Congrats on your progress!! That's so awesome that you went and had a good time and you still did amazing!! Great job!!0 -

Oh, I couldn't give up my beer! I did switch to Bud Select 55. It tastes pretty good to me and is half the calories as my beer I was drinking! I also switch my Morgan colas to Morgan diet. I found that I really don't mind diet Pepsi with my rum! I didn't feel the diet Coke tasted as good, but that is just me!0 -

Ya, I'm gonna be 22 on June 1st and I think this last year I was drunk half the time lol I turned 21 and IT was ON! ....and by it I means the pounds! lol J/K but really it's hard. I still have nights where I drink anyway if we have people over or something. I usually screw up my weekends too....food I'm good on but alcohol is my enemy!0 -
Hardest thing for me . . . . white bread!0

Hardest thing for me is desserts/sweets. I didn't eat them everyday, but when I did, it was in spree manner. I haven't had any "junk food" for over ten days, and I am really craving something right now. I've been popping grapes and dry cheerios in my mouth off and on all day. It's tough.0

well when i was 19 i went on the medifast diet and hated it, but i did lose a lot of weight, and managed to keep it off for a while, then i started barhopping(i never got id.-ed) and i gained 60 pounds in the last 3 years.....and wonder why when i drank every single weeked from like 10 til about 4 or so in the morning....and did that for 3 years...such a shame, cause i had a cute body lol...and i don't care what they say, you can't dance it off when you drink so much.0

you can google healhy desserts or even make raw desserts and they fix that sweet tooth and are actually pretty good for you.0 -
I am back on MFP for the THIRD time trying to kick my last 20-30 pounds. I fell into loving my favorite things too much...the hardest thing for me to give up are potatoes in the form of hash browns, chips and french fries. But I have learned to do better by using sweet potatoes as a substitute. My personality does not support "everything in moderation" so I can not sit down and have a "serving" of chips. I tend to eat the whole bag. So I do truly have to "give it up" except on cheat days which I reserve for holidays and every other Saturday night with my boyfriend when we go to our favorite seafood restaurant where I indulge in the seasoned waffle fries0

Peanut butter gets me every single time! I'm trying to cut down to a few days a week. If I have a PB & J sandwich, I find myself eating extra spoonfuls after. Peanut butter is EVIL!!! :laugh:0

Cheese, bread, and peanut butter. I know I can still have those things in moderation, but 9 times out of 10, I reach for the cheese and realize that it's 100 calories for a tiny sliver and I realize it isn't worth it. Also, I make breads for my family (cornbread and biscuits) with dinner and I usually don't eat it. It doesn't seem worth almost 200 calories for one corn muffin. I ALWAYS want it and contemplate it, but usually end up not eating it. I do still eat peanut butter pretty regularly--I do find that it is filling and I can feel content with 1/2 tbsp. on a piece of bread which is only 50 cals.0

Mindless snacking is the hardest thing to give up for me. I don't really crave anything, since I allow it in my diet, with moderation. What I miss is just getting the munchies and eating to fill the void.
I have to make myself accountable for everything I eat, so it curbs the mindless eating, but I'm so aware that I want to eat, and can't if I'm over my calories.0 -
Alcoholic... well, whiskey specifically. I miss my Jack /Jameson and ginger so much. I still drink, but i went to vodka tonics, or vodka crans. Lame and boring. If I know I'm only going out just the one night, and I've worked out that day, I'll splurge and get a Jack and diet.0

i turn 21 in about a week and i already know it's going to be hard lol. My friends are already anticipating me finally being able to go out with them on the weekends.0

I definitely have to say the hardest for me is Hashbrowns! I love hashbrowns... infact I love potatoes! And yes the alcohol also, I went out everything weekend and no idea how much I drank but the hangovers tell me it was WAY too much! Have not had a drink since Oct 31, 2009 ~ wild Halloween Bash well who am I kidding, it was a weekend thing! lol With summer coming, I know I'm going to be fighting the urges to hangout with my fellow loving Jose friends!0
