I have worn out my hiking boots!

I decided that when my kids headed back to school in September 2012 I was going to take full advantage, on my days off, of those hours to get outside and get active. This would be the first time in 11 years that all of my children would be in school full days and I would have some time to dedicate to me.

This was going to be MY year and my goal was to be "fit by 40". I set a personal goal to clean up my diet, lose my weight and become fit and strong once again before my 40th birthday this November.

I am fortunate to live in a the Pacific Northwest where my playground is comprised of mountains and lakes practically in my backyard. There are endless miles of trails in every level of intensity you could imagine and every type of water sport at your disposal. The weather here is also perfect for getting outside year round, no deep freezes to keep you indoors.

For the past 6 months I have been out hiking the mountains, snow shoeing, cycling and or jogging at least 3 times a week. I usually head out for 2-4 hours at a time with my heart rate monitor and it has been working. I have progressively increased my strength and endurance and I have lost 66 lbs so far. I'm keeping my goal in sight with only 37 lbs to go! I will achieve it.

Two weeks ago, on one of my regular hikes, I noticed my feet were becoming soaked but thought maybe there was just a leak somewhere in my boots. Turns out I have completely worn out the soles! I have put so many miles on them that after only six months I need a new pair. I am so proud of myself when I look at those boots and I just wanted to share.
