Hello.
I'll do my damndest to keep this short. I'm male, 55, and having been diagnosed with Dermatomyositis with overlap Scleroderma at age 38, I was finally forced into retirement due to my health at age 50.
Due to disease, side-effects of medication, and a newly sedentary lifestyle I gained 40 lbs and became terribly weak. Hard to get into car or open a cardboard box weak.
Over the last year I've had a lessening of the severity of my symptoms, and have weaned from pain medications. (I decided I preferred pain to the grogginess and other related side effects of the pain meds. )
I have about another 10 lbs to go, as well as trying very hard to add some activity and fitness to my life.
I believe in calories in / calories out. I was an engineer, and am married to a medical professional. I don't believe in things like "eat more to lose weight." I don't believe in magic numbers nor do I believe in starvation mode being a side effect of going under the 1200 calorie "magic number." Not meant to be an insult, but per the topic, I'm looking for like-minded friends, not folks to debate with. And if you can't already tell, I can get cranky and/or cantankerous.
