I would like to incorporate weights into my routine but I have to admit that I have never been into weights. I would like to see a extra boost in my weight loss. I have been reading that it would really help me to incorporate this. I just am so overwhelmed. I have no idea where to start? What is too much, too little? How many times a week?

I am also VERY accident prone, too...and I am super nervous about overdoing it and hurting myself.

Please help? Advice greatly appreciated!!

I LOVE strength training and have seen great results with it. My first suggestion would be to use a trainer at your gym, if you go to a gym. Find one who is certified and educated and have them show you a couple of basic routines.

Read "Starting Strength" - it's a great intro to lifting - and a great lifting program.

Also, check out Strong Lifts and the New Rules of Lifting for Women. Any of the three would be a good choice to get started with lifting.

If you're worried about getting hurt/having an accident in the gym, hire a trainer to show you how to do the lifts. You can also watch videos on youtube to see correct form. I like the videos Mark Rippetoe has posted - they make sense to me and have helped me improve my form.

Another great book for starting is "The New Rules of Lifting for Women"

A lot of people will recommend it, including myself :-)

I started with New Rules of Lifting for Woman (NROL4W) and I've also done StrongLifts and working on New Rules of Lifting for Men. I love the New Rules program because it changes up the workout every 4-8 weeks. Stronglifts and Starting strength are also very good, but I got bored doing the same things week after week. :) I would recommend any of these for starting out though. New Rules also offers a lot of information, actually a pretty decent read.
