Nutrition & business travel

Hi,

I'm just getting started with all of this and I'm thinking my nutrition is off. I could use some input.

I started mid January wit the body by vi shakes (no flames please), and have lost 30 lbs. That's what got me started. A few weeks ago, I started a couch to 5k running program on my treadmill and it has been going well. I've done a bunch of reading on the new fangled interweb and am seeing alot of controversy about soy protein isolates, which is a main ingredient in the vi shakes.. But that's another topic for another time. I'm in the process of switching over to whey protein isolate powder and fiber powder, with vitamins instead because it has lower carbs.

I'm wearing the body media monitor now and wound up with a 2200 calorie deficit yesterday, which wasn't exactly accurate since I didn't record the sampling I did of my kids supper last night. :-)

I travel almost every week, and spend lots of time in hotels and restaurants, which is how I got the 31% body fat I'm currently lugging around with me. I found that shakes are easy to travel with and are readily available for morning and evening meals, so I drink my protein instead of finding it in natural sources, which would be my preference if not for the travel.

The problem is that I don't think I'm getting enough calories. I know I need to hit 1200 minimum, but some days I'm under 1,000. I'm assuming by what I've read that this is putting me into starvation mode (bad) and is what has kept me at the plateau for the last couple of weeks.

I travel alot so being able to rely on local sources of healthy foods (ie not restaurants) is challenging. Does anyone else travel like I do? What do you pack in your suitcase for a week? How do you eat on the road?

Thanks!
