I am 5'4 was 192 like 2 weeks ago. Not doing any exercise PERIOD and eating like a maniac 2 weeks before that. Well I have been working out doing the BodyJam and BodyCombat classes even Zumba at 24 HR fitness for about a month now and about 3 to 4xs a week. I have also cut out fried food and trying to eat better by using myfitnesspal. Well I have only lost 3 frickin pounds. I didnt expect to reach a plateau so soon. Is this normal? Is it possible I will lose more doing what I am doing if I just keep it up. Everyday I get on the scale I am FRUSTRATED that my dang on scale is stuck on 189. :( Anyone else experience this? I know I am also possibly rushing it but for someone who has NEVER really worked out I feel like the shock of me moving around would create drastic change. <- *Yes, thats my disclaimer for my impatieness* (new word)

First off..3 pounds in two weeks is awesome. Thats 1.5 pounds per week which is a great, healthy weight loss. A plateau happens when you are still doing everything "right" and havent lost anything in weeks. And yes, those happen. Happens to me quite frequently

It is hard to really give you any advice because I have no idea how many calories you are eating compared to your exercise or what you are eating. I say 3 pounds is two weeks is awesome and keep doing what you doing...its working for you.

3 lbs loss is not a plateau.

Also - weight loss is not linear. You may or may not lose every week. Some you won't lose or even go up on others you may lose more than expected. It usually equals out.

Plus there are any number of things that affect scale weight. Water retention can be caused by any number of things - like starting to workout or increasing activity, to sodium or carb levels to menstrual cycles in women.

You will find it difficult to maintain this with an impatient attitude. You didn't put the weight on in 2 weeks. It's not going to come off that fast either. There is a lot to be said for slow and steady.

2 lbs a week is the maximum you can reasoanably expect to lose as that is only if you have 100lbs or more to lose. 1-2 lbs a week on average is good progress. You have average 1.5.

hi there i know its frustrating but keep on in there. When i started trying to loose weight i took up running and actually put on 7lbs, i felt better and looked better but was told because my fat was turning into muscle this was the reason i had put on. It took over a year but am now 2 stone lighter. Keep at it and make sure you are eating enough for the exercise you are doing good luck:smile:

Losing 3lbs is DEFINITELY not a plateau. A plateau is NO scale movement for a certain amount of weeks. Stop weighing yourself daily. Weigh yourself once a week. I started around the same weight as you and I'm the same height and it will come off if you eat correctly. It's been 7 months and I've lost 48lbs. You're not going to lose weight every week/day, you'll lose more some weeks - less the other weeks. There are certain things that will affect weight loss, e.g. water retention.

I wish I could lose 3lbs in one go and say I'm on a plateau though. Losing 3lbs is really good. Keep up the good work!

You are not plataeued. You are impatient. Right now, I am sure you body is in shock. if you went from doing nothing to doing all of that, it will take some perserverance to get your metabolism kicked into high gear! seriously, go easy on yourself. Big changes don't happen the first month. You HAVE TO STICK WITH IT! I promise, the weight will start to fall off when your body realizes this is a new way of life and it will learn how to burn what you've got stored on your body! Keep with it!! stay with it!! stay with it!! stay with it!!

Also, stay off the scale!! You need to take measurements and pictures to get a real picture of your results. I promise, you wont regret it! the scale should not be your primary way of seeing what's being lost. take pictures, measurements, and weight every 30 days. and keep doing what you are doing!

Took me over 6 weeks to see the first pounds move out of the way. So, 3 pounds IS progress. Just keep making healthy food choices and staying active. . .the results will come.
  • Thank you all so so so so very much for your responses. This is the hardest thing I have EVER done in my life (cause I had a c-section, usually it would be giving birth but I feel like I cheated. lol) I will NOT weigh everyday. ughhh. I wont. And I will take pics and need to get a measuring tape and google the proper way to do it. For whoever said you were around my same weight and height thank you so much!!!! This app is a God send I swear!!! I see all of your tags with how much you guys have lost, I am so inspired. Thank you from the bottom of my belly!

The first week or two of working out I thought the same, You dont see the initial loss because you want it to drop so fast. My best advice is to MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE! I've lost so many inches in the past 3 months and have lost 14lbs. To me at first 14lbs was nothing to be excited about because I wanted to lose 30lbs by now. However, I am now looking at it differently. 14lbs is 14lbs less then what I weighed orginally. Not only that I went from a 38C to a 34C on my bra size, I've lost almost 2" off of my arms, close to 6" off of my waist, my thighs and hips are smaller and more formed. Your only a few weeks into it, keep at it and you will get there. :-)
  • thanks. What are you doing to lose the weight? That is really great!!
