Finally making a change in my life!

So here I am...32, overweight, feeling like crap every day, HATING what I see in the mirror. My pants don't fit, my stomach impedes upon my ability to sit at my desk in a way that is comfortable to me, and I'm pretty sure the sound my bed makes when I get in isn't normal...or of this world.

That was 2 weeks ago...Since then I've COMPLETELY changed everything about my eating habits and physical activity levels...and I've already lost 8 lbs! I've been walking 2 times a day, I've started eating more salads, vegetables, fruits, cutting out red meat, cutting down on portion sizes and I'm finding myself enjoying foods I previously found detestable. I'm also trying this old "fit for life" diet that my friends swear by. mainly, I'm only following the part about not combining proteins and carbs when eating. Can't say any one thing is working over the other but one things for sure, something is working! :)

I'm here mainly for the diet tracking portion of the app but I'm finding myself intrigued by the social aspect as well. I'm definitely the type of person where combining previously despised activities with a social component makes them MUCH more enjoyable for me.

so I welcome friend adds from all walks of life and geographic locations. Also wouldn't mind finding some people local to me who are in a similar physical condition who would be interested in taking up running. I've always been envious of the people I see jogging on the streets all over my town and thought "man, I wish I was the type of person to go jogging" and then it hit me...the only reason I'm not is because I don't. So with that, I'm going to get me some new Forrest Gumps and start pounding that pavement! Hope to find some people to join me! :) and good luck to everyone in their fitness endeavors!

Good luck to you! I've only been doing this for about 40 days and my main advice is to log your food and exercise every day. This seems to be the real core of making this work. MFP is awesome. Steady as you go. If you get too crazy and intense, then you could lose big... but you might gain it all back. Seems like keeping this realistic and steady is key. So... a big good luck and glad you found MFP! You can do it, and it is really great that at your young age you want to get in shape.
  • Welldone Shaun, you're doing it!!! I'm sure it won't be too long before you are running yourself fit!! Not sure I can assist there.. But been new to the site i am looking for encouragement from positive minded people. Would welcome you as a friend and any encouragement, experiences, or helpful hints we can exchange. My neme is Jacquie.
  • Hi, I'm Jess, congratulations to you Shaun and I wish all you guys good luck. So, here's the deal; 2 years ago I went on a diet and lost 49 lbs, taking me to 147 lbs. At 5"6 I was far from ideal but after been overweight for years I finally felt like it was worth it; unfortunately I had a bad break up and now I've put more weight back on than when I originally started. So i would really appreciate any support, help and tips off people because that's what was missing before; now with a more positive view on life I'm ready to start my journey and would like support from anyone who is willing to give it. Thanks
