Hey! I am a senior and did cross country for the first time last year! I was lazy for the month following the season but have slowly began to pick it up again! I could hardly run a mile before the season and now 2 or 3 miles doesn't scare me.. I am no expert but enjoy talking to other beginners and learning from long time runnePr

    Hell yeah I'm a runner.
First I'll show my stats then I'll give advice.

    Running:
    Starting: 15 min/mile
    Current: 6 min/mile
    Work Out Distance: 8 miles (4 miles X 2)
    Longest Distance: 10 miles...so far.

    Advice:
To be good at running you need to practice a few things.
    1.) Leg Strength:
Any leg exercise will do but leg extensions, lunges and squats will be really affective getting your legs stretched out and stronger.

    2.) Stamina (AKA Wind):
    Any Cardio will do.
Though Burpees, Stairmaster and Elliptical will help improve your stamina.
(You can start on the runners training wheels which is a simulated treadmill then build up upon it by running on the street or a track.)

    3.) Arm Technique:
For steady speed start your arms at your hips and move them up every time you move to your chest area.
For fast speed start at your arms at your hips and move them as high as your forehead when you run quick.

    Food Advice:
    -Eat very lightly.
(Because if you eat heavy you will run heavy making it harder.)

-Protein: Lean Meat (Chicken, Fish, Turkey, Lamb, etc,)
[Limit red meat and pork intake to 1 serving/week.]

-Complex Carbs: Sweet Potatoes, Vegetables, Fruit, Grains, etc.
[Limit fruit intake to 1 serving/day because of the excess sugar and replace it by eating more vegetables.]

-Fats: Omega 3 (Fish Oil), Nuts, Avocadoes, etc.

I learned all of this from my friend who was a track star in High School and is now a Civic Engineer at Purdue University.

Running takes a long time to improve on but be persistent and you'll be a track star in no time.
(Took me 5-6 months to get where I'm at running.)

Seeing myself in the mirror every day. If that doesn't motivate me, nothing will.
