too many calories on atkins?

I know that ideally one shouldn't worry too much about calories, I'm doing owl and and eating huge amounts of healthy fats, some protein and very little carbs which come from veg.
Today so far I'm over 2000 and still hungry.
I'm 5ft 3" and weigh 140lb which is too much for my small frame.
Anyone help me calorie wise?

my mother experienced that hunger. i don't know what her daily calorie goal was (i was quite a bit younger when she started it) but i know that she did sometimes have to just go to bed obscenely early because she was too hungry to just sit awake and be miserable. i think that once you've adjusted from getting your energy from carbs, the hunger should go away. but for now, you probably just gotta tough it out.0

owl?
what is owl? I'm not sure I follow what your plan is here.0 -
You seem to eat quite little, no wonder you are hungry. Fat has a lot of calories so you can't eat a lot of it if you want to stay within your calorie limits. Why not try eating more green vegetables? Or even better, ditch the Atkins and start a healthy lifestyle eating plenty of complex carbs and whole foods.0
-
I'm not an Atkins expert, but if I were you I'd cut back on the fats a little and exchange them for a little more protein. Also make sure the calories in the database match up with your food labels. Some of those calorie counts seem high...like the coconut oil and the cream.0
-
I've run into this problem before too. I would try more foods with a little higher hyperglycemic index.. These will keep you fuller longer. maybe just for breakfast?0
-
more protein less of the fats, plus the Atkins diet is horrible and hardly ever works out for people because they just revert back to their old habits. Need to balance out all macros, eat healthy non-processed foods, and maintain a good diet to keep results you have made.0
-
Geez... less fat more meat.....
If you eat tons of lean meat and veggies... you would be stuffed and wondering where to get your extra calories.. and supplimenting up with your healthy fat stores......0 -
Yeah, that doesn't look like enough, food-wise.
Like, you can lose weight eating nothing but chocolate, as long as you're under your calorie goal, but you're going to be constantly hungry and tired because it's not enough food.
Like, ten chocolate bars is 2,100 calories.
You're going to be hungry if all you is is ten chocolate bars a day
Or you could eat proteins and veggies and a little fat and you'll be so full you might have to make yourself eat to reach your calorie goal.0 -
Protein keeps you full. Atkins is a quick way to lose weight but not a life style. Have you tried the 40/30/30 diet? 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat??0

I looked at your food diary and you are not on Atkins. Are you drinking the coconut oil? 50 g. is a lot of oil. Also, the marscapone cheese will not keep you full like another piece of chicken would. And the double cream, I googled that because I had never heard of it, and it compared it to creme fraiche here in the US. Are you just eating that like jello or something? Again, I would replace that with an actual protein, like beef, chicken, fish or even beans. I've done Atkins before and currently am doing something similar with no grains and no sugar and I'm never hungry except at meal times. Good luck!0

Just looked at today's diary, but yeah, you are getting a high amount of calories from very little food. I do LCHF as well, but I get 80-110 gr of protein in everyday, and I get more food from my fat calories, i.e. nuts and avocados.
My macros are 50%Fat/30%Pro/20%Carb
My days are usually filled with so much food that it feels like I am eating all the time. And I stay around 1200 cals. I am never truly starving hungry. You probably need more cals than I do, as I am 5'6", 49, and fairly sedentary. But I would surely suggest you get more solid food in your diet, and less mass quantities of creams and other fats.
A good example of my usual lunch is a large omelet made with 3/4 c Egg beaters, 1/4 c fat free cheese, 2 cups of spinach, 2 large portabello mushrooms, onions and garlic, and 2 oz of ham or turkey sausage. I add 2 tbsp of salsa and 1/4 of an avocado on top and have a massive amount of food that keeps me full for hours, for around 325 cals.
So up your protein, and eat more veggies!0 -
owl?
what is owl? I'm not sure I follow what your plan is here.
It looks like a segment of Atkins - Ongoing Weight Loss.

And OP -why do you think one "shouldn't worry too much about calories"?
Calorie reduction is how you lose weight.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I need to re-think methinks.....
The reason Im eating so much fat is because thats what atkins diet says (I'm prob eating too much cream fat) The cream and marcapone is made up with sugar free jelly to fill me.
Atkins 65% fat
Coconut oil in coffee, 10g at a time-meant to be fantastic
Ok so I should have more protein and on other days when I included more meat and/or eggs I did seem to do better.
I dont want to eat too much protein either as I want to get into ketosis for loosing.
owl is ongoing way of life in atkins.
I am so confused as well as hungry0 -
Double cream is the english version of heavy cream.
Op, i do a lchf diet my macros are 65/35/5.
My pt advised me to lower my cheese and cream, if you want to take a look at my diary or add me. I always make an evening meal (well other than tonight, having nails done, relaxation yoga, long soak and a protein dessert with chick flicks but generally do).xx0 -

Makes sense.
Also, calorie reduction is indeed how you lose weight. Might wanna consider a more balanced intake. That way, you won't be nearly as hangry.0 -

Agreed.
Calorie reduction + balanced macros = weight loss with no hangry.
It works (see ticker for proof)0 -
that is probably due to the type of calories you have. it is waaay better to have some whole grain bread, for example. Like, 50gr is only about 150 calories and it will fill you up!0

I eat alot more protein and stay in ketosis. Also atkins does limit your intake of cream/cheese.150g clotted cream is alot especially when that is the calories of a main meal and a snack. Dont get me wrong being cornish i can eat clotted cream like it's going out of fashion but i'd prefer to eat a vegetable satay and block of meat.lol.xx0 -
From tomorrow-no cream or marscapone
Up my protein intake, I will have eggs, meat, cocnut oil and loads veg.
Thank you all so much.0 -
Good plan.
You might want to read the book again. I'm pretty sure it encourages more vegetables than you're eating.0 -

Why do you have to be in ketosis to lose weight? I eat lots of carbs and the weight's still coming off. I tried a low carb diet before and was hungrier too. Maybe it's not the right diet plan for you?0 -
You are getting way too much fat, and not enough protein. Protein will keep you full for much longer. I usually get between 80-100g of protein daily, and less fat.
May I ask, why did you consume so much coconut oil and cream today? And I'm not sure what the creamy Marscapone is. That's well over half of your calories alone, and they are almost pure fat.
I eat under 50 carbs a day, and have between 1200-1400 calories a day. I usually STRUGGLE to eat that much, because I'm so full from all the protein. Feel free to add me if you'd like to take a look at my diary.0 -

^This. Fiancee and I are on Atkins right now, and we are only hungry when we should be... no cravings like before, and no more lethargy. I don't know what you are doing with all that cream/fat, but I would also suggest eating some some good protein. Fat is good on Atkins, but eating creamy fats is NOT what that means.
Just eat some bacon.. wrap your chicken with bacon. GO.
Also, try to have at least 1-2 cups of veggies... fiancee and I eat a whole head of romaine daily, and getting through that is tough. It fills you up like nothing else does.0 -
DH lost his weight on Atkins (50 pounds, kept off for over a year now) and I have a cheat sheet to remind me what kinds of things to make for him. Cream no greater than 2-3 TB per day, cheese no more than 3-4 oz, salad veggies at least 2-3 cups, other low-carb veggies 1 cup. There's more of course, but of the things on my cheat sheet, the things I mentioned seemed a little out of whack with your food diary. If you eat enough meat and eggs, the fat usually comes along for the ride and you don't have to try too hard adding additional fat.0

I'm doing Atkins too but don't even count the cheese if it has 0 carbs. Starting second week now but lost 6 lbs first week. Should I be watching the cheese amount? I'd be interested in your cheat sheet.0
